110 voters - on the aggregate, nothing looks too wonky (don't think I had any difference of more than four or five points).

Nice to see we didn't punish NDSU for valiantly losing to their bye week like the coaches did.

Let me see:

W&M: I had them lower; wins over VMI and New Haven have been underwhelming.
Chatt: Gotta evaluate fairly, and Chat has a good road win and a convincing home win vs. a top team from another conference. Just cause they're Chattownmocs team doesn't mean you can just not rank them. ;)
JMU: Actually surprised they're not a bit higher. Gotta give 'em props for going ooc and away from home for a risky game at Liberty, plus beat another team that is still getting votes (Central Conn)
SIU: They went on the road and won at SEMO, and lost by two td's in an SEC house.
Jacksonville State: This is right where I had Jacksonville State, honestly; lost in Chatty, squeaked by Tennessee Martin, good win over False GSU (just to keep the Georgia Southern fans happy there)
SHSU: ooc win vs. an MVFC team and a solid win over what was regarded as a good Central Arkansas Team

Delaware State: I think some of the coaches have infiltrated the AGS poll and cannot distinguish between Hens and Hornets.

Edit: Whoops, I had JSU a fair bit lower, misread the place. OK, that surprises a bit, but 15+ it gets pretty wacky.

Coach Miles and his boys have done an amazing job in the past 2 years. We had the longest losing streak in the nation, won one game, then had the longest streak again just a few years ago. It's amazing what a solid staff and admin support can do, plus a lot of talent.

Having made my first trip to Terre Haute last year, this is very impressive. They play in an "ok at best" stadium, without much fan support, and still are getting things turned around.

You're being kind with your stadium description. Land has been bought and a new stadium has been added to the university's master plan, but who knows when and if it will get built.

In his defense (UNI at 7, MSU at #8 and NDSU at #10 strike me as low), it still seems pretty fair. Some good love for the Southland conference there, and not too many people are ranking Cal Poly and Sac State. So while you can say there might be a perceived east coast bias, there's a good mix of conferences and geographies that line up generally with what little performance we've seen from all of these teams.

Are me, GoLehighTUOwl, and the Lafayette guys the only people giving any votes to Yale? I find that incredibly hard to believe, especially considering there's not a single Ivy in the ORV this week. All the undefeated ivy teams (and Penn) I track; problem for me, ranking them this week, is that most just have one or two games, vs. most other teams on the 25 and receiving votes who have played more. As they build up resumes, I'm sure I will have Ivy teams in and out of my polls again this year (I had Pennsylvania up until this week).

Brown is the perfect example of why I didn't have an ivy team in my top 25 - the only game they've had is a one-point win at 0-3 Stony Brook. How does that stack up vs. my 21-25: Sam Houston State has two good wins (WIU, Central Arkansas); Cal Poly has a competitive loss, an FBS loss and a surprisingly large win over SDSU; Old Dominion doesn't have marquee wins, but they do have three regular wins; Maine has two FCS wins, including a win at Albany; and Tennessee Tech (my throwaway #25 vote) notched an 11 point win at a Valley team (EIU). Brown may be better than any or all of those teams, but with only one point of reference, I can't say. (And, yes, I have Yale higher, and I value their home win over Georgetown - just not quite top 25 yet).

I did forget the spiders last week...as for UNH...theyre 1-1 and their loss was a summary sidewalk beatdown, and their one win was over Lehigh, a team who, though good, someone like New Hampshire should beat much more solidly. Id say top 15, maybe top 10 depending on how everybody else does.

A 30 point thrashing of Colgate, a sound beating of a Harvard team who is projected to finish atop the Ivy League, and a near upset of a UMASS team that looks to be in the upper half of the CAA is good enough for a top 20 ranking to me...especially with how interchangeable many of these teams are. Currently, do you rank an 0-3 EWU team or 1-2 SC State team ahead of Holy Cross? Not so sure that you can.

We'll find out just how good HC is in two weeks against UNH. If they pull out a win in Durham, I think they're a borderline top 15 team.

Well you currently have Lehigh ranked at #11. So even though UNH beat Lehigh head-to-head on the road, you would rank them behind Lehigh because they did not beat Lehigh by enough? That makes no sense. If you are going to downgrade anyone for a close win, it should be W&M.

Anyway, UNH vs. Richmond should be very interesting. I'm not completely sold on the Spiders yet.

But then Toledo almost beat Ohio State and hung with Boise State for three quarters. I'm not sure too many FCS teams would have done much better. A LOT of the teams in your Top 25 got waxed by FBS opponents.

UMass is above the 63 scholly limit already from what I saw from another UMass poster last week. Is this not true?

What those polls do is up to them and I am fine with them being in there but we decided that if the NCAA and the CAA believed UMass to have an unfair advantage then we should defer to them as the authority on the matter.

I don't want to hammer on you too much as many people already have. I am just curious as to having SFA at 15, but UNI only at 7. We have a 1 point loss to a 3-0 FBS team, and beat your number 15 SFA. Somehow though W&M is ranked at 6 with a squeaker over D2 New Haven a win over VMI and a blowout loss to Virginia.

Either way I can't complain too much as I do like when we are ranked a little lower and flying a little bit under the radar. Looks pretty good with a few minor problems, but it is still early so things will change xnodx

I want to know who thinks an 0-3 EWU is still top 25? Regardless of the level of competition no wins is no wins.

It's all a matter of how you vote: Do you vote for how good you feel the team is, or do you vote based on their performance on the field? These are two distinctly different things, after all (you can have a great team with a very bad record; and you can have an OK team with a great record if they never really play anyone). I didn't have EWU in my ballot (I try to strike a balance of the eye test and on-field accomplishment), but they have played like a top 25 team.

As other teams can attest, sometimes it just plain sucks to have that big old bullseye on your back, too.

Well, if someone uses a bogus method such as "Only drop a team 8 spots max for a loss" EWU would still be at 17 to 25 (depending on if the FBS loss would even drop them a full 8 spots).

Seriously, How is Lehigh in the top 15 if UNH is out. That is insane. If UNH should beat Lehigh...they should be ahead of them in the poll. xconfusedx

I can't tell if it's sad or awesome that this poll is light-years better than the Coaches Poll.

That's because most of the "Coaches" are actually SIDs that don't know Jack about FCS Football, outside of their conference and the 4 or 5 schools they play ooc every few years. Yes, I know there are some coaches that fill out their own ballot and take great pride in laboring over each and every stat from every game.....but those coaches are probably sitting at 0-3 and should be spending more time on their gameplan, or looking for another job.

Most coaches don't even vote and have their SIDs do it. They don't have the time to follow what others are doing other than the team next on their schedule.

Ok, you may be right, nobody knows at this point. What is it about the QB that you don't have confidence in. Which QB that we've had did you have confidence in...going back from this year?

10-5 in the first fifteen games and he's played Tennessee, Last years NC twice, & a slew of top 20-25 teams in that stretch. What exactly is it that we need to do to give a guy a break on the coaching?

I ain't saying we're world beaters yet but we've done as much to be a top 10 team right now as anyone else. This team is not even close to the potential I'm seeing out there and we will have a set back here and there but they are getting incrementally better.

PantherRob82

Also, the recap of the game makes it sound a little less impressive.

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- James Madison fought off a late rally to beat Central Connecticut State 14-9 on Saturday night.

With the Dukes (1-1) ahead 7-3 in the fourth quarter, tailback Dae'Quan Scott ran for an 8-yard touchdown that increased their lead to 14-3. Scott finished with 138 yards on 20 carries.

The Dukes forced the Blue Devils to punt from their own 2, setting up a short drive from the Central Connecticut State 34-yard line.

James Madison's defense held firm in the fourth quarter, stopping Central Connecticut State on two of their three fourth-quarter drives. Stephon Robertson finished with 14 tackles on the night.

The Blue Devils scored their only touchdown on a Chris Tolbert 3-yard run as time expired. Tolbert finished with 18 yards on five carries and Brian Fowler led the way with 93 yards on 21 carries.

Like I said, if they deserve respect, I think they'll get it. But scoring 9 4th quarter points with 6 of them being as time expired doesn't sound too impressive. Seems like a good defensive effort though.

I would think JMU's defense would want to keep the points off the board, but who knows in an 11 point game with no chance they could lose. I'd like a JMU fans perspective.

It was iffy putting them there, honestly. I don't know if they show the same championship drive....though I guess it doesn't matter as Jesus himself said that Chatty will always be FCS champions.

I can't believe y'all left out the Mocs practice squad (they don't get the attention because they have dumb down their talent to imitate the opposing teams each week...do you know how hard it is to dial down that much awesomeness???)

It just shows what a joke these early season polls are. But it's alright, by the end of the season, they will be up in the polls and in the hunt (with ASU and GSU) for the 4th team in the playoffs from the SoCon (the other three teams being the Mocs 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams)

My biggest concern is that the committee will invariably put 3 of the 4 Mocs playoffs teams on one side of the bracket and have them beat up on each other (the NCAA has always had a grudge against the Mocs, that's why Al Gore invented the APR)

But, it is still a safe bet you will see an all Mocs final anyway. I hear that ESPN is trying to convince the NCAA to let the different Mocs teams host (at Finley Stadium, aka God's 100 yard patch of Heaven on Earth) on Friday AND Saturday to maximize ratings.

Good news is, they're are already planning on 8,000 temporary bleachers in the west endzone and they are going to let people by tickets on the grassy hill on the east endzone, that will get capacity up to almost 40,000. That is not optimal considering the demand, but hey, you just have to make the best with what you have.

I am surprised with ESPN's College football package that they don't start one up for the FCS. Of course they would jack the price up since demand wouldn't be as great as the FBS. Anything for money.

ESPN is to TV providers what Oil companies are to Car manufacturers. When I worked for a cable company, I was told offhand things like ESPN is 80% of the cost of a basic cable package(for the company I worked for). They have to subsidize it in everyones bill or its unaffordable. Thank espn, cause without them...basic cable would be like 7 bucks a month.

Cableone was the company I worked for. I would assume it is the same way for all washington post owned cable companies, well probably pretty similar for all cable companies not called Comcast cox or timewarner+dish and direct.

If there was an FCS Football equivalent to the NFL Sunday Ticket (access to every single game in the FCS) I would switch providers and buy the package in a heartbeat.

It would be $950/season. Or more.

If they priced it at $350 like DirecTV does with the NFL Sunday Ticket I think they would get a lot of takers. There are a lot of FCS fans out there who now live too far away from their schools to attend games in person, but would love to still be able to watch. Plus, unlike BCS team fans we don't have the luxury of most of our games just ending up on national TV anyway.

Not like for nfl..it will not have subscriber quanity. It will however take up more bandwidth due to way more games. The only way it would be feasible would be to package it with an FBS/BCS games to boost the subs. But I would think BCS teams have tv contracts that would make that sort of deal illegal.
