"The apparent immune disorder that Sutton is suffering from has left him virtually motionless.
"He can't talk and he can barely move his toes. It's a nasty virus,˜ Karen said. "He's wiggling his toes better this morning, better than he was last evening. He's on a ventilator and he has a feeding tube and a breathing tube. There's about seven bags of stuff hanging around him.˜"

Well anything is possible. i think they will obviously look past us for this game, player wise. The other thing we have in our favor is it is only the second game of the yr. Of course I think that might also be to our detriment as we have no clearcut idea of who will be our starting QB and we have a few new WR also this yr. I think we have a chance though myself.

How do you throw Army in there?

Granted - they're a bad I-A team, but still a I-A team with more scholarships and resources than most I-AAs.

How's this for a schedule in 2005 for UC Davis:

You could very easily start 0-3 with that tough beginning. Your initial goal should be to win 1 of those 3. Anything more than that and you should be eccstatic.

This schedule is better than last year. A I-A on the slate with a non DI there too. I can live with that, but the last four games are going to be very tough (@WKU, YSU, @UNI, ND St.). Should be a much better test than last years finnishing schedule.

That's a tough one. No automatic wins in that out-of-conference slate. You could conceivably go 5-6 and win your conference.

I'll be interested to see how the New Hampshire game goes. Everyone is penciling them in as an A-10 favorite, but I'm not so sure they'll be as good as last year. Great young QB and receiver, but they lost RJ Harvey (RB) and a super DE. Key cogs and leaders.

Blackfordpu,

You will probably be able to go to a sports bar and get to see those games. Personally, I will be at both. If you live in Houston you should be at Robertson for that one. Me and a buddyof mine are already planning out our tailgate for that game. Then we are flying to Lubbock the following week. I really think we have a chance at an upset at UH.

I'm so conflicted. I've applied for a job at UH that a former Bearkat used to have and if I get it, I'd be working that game between the Kats and Cougars. Could be a tough one to sit through and not root for the Kats. Then again, I could be back in Bearkat orange or off in a far away land...

Even though I follow UNH football enthusiastically for 12 months a year,I would have to say that the optimistic predictions for `05 are ridiculous. They lost both defensive ends, their best OL,their number two and three receivers, top linebacker, and two starters from an already porous secondary. If they win six games next season,I will be VERY surprised.

Interesting to hear that from a UNH fan. And you didn't even mention Harvey's loss. I think UMass is the team to beat in the A-10 North.

I have to agree with you about UMass, although I think Hofstra will surprise a lot of people. One other problem facing UNH is the fact that they have no quarterback, other than Santos, with any experiece. They have a red shirt freshman and another first year player who entered school at the start of the 2nd semester going through spring drills, with two more freshmen due to report in August. That's not exactly confidence inspiring. As you mentioned earlier, their first game should be interesting-and revealing.BTW,good luck to the green & gold this year. The southern division should be as competitive as ever next season.

Thanks, RCNY. W&M, JMU and Delaware all have big question marks facing them this season. We have more returning than the other two, but you don't lose a Payton winner and not miss him. Even with their O-line losses, JMU has to be the favorite. They return almost all their skill people and they had alot of depth on their defense. Villanova's a ? for me. Agree with you about Hofstra as the sleeper.

You said that UNH lost their #2 and #3 receivers and two DBs. I know about David Bailey and Aaron Thomas. Was Harvey the 3rd leading receiver, and who's the other DB?

rcny46
April 16th, 2005, 07:33 PM
The wide receiver was Shaun Diner.and the defensive back was Giovanni Benson, who would have been a fifth year senior, but opted to forgo his last year of eligibility. He was also used as a special teams player. They do have some quality replacements at some of these positions, but they are untried so time will tell I guess.Harvey's replacement will most likely be Chris Ward, who saw limited playing time last year.He was highly regarded in high school and was contacted by several 1-A schools, including BC,but a knee injury after 5 games (he had approx. 1,000 yds. rushing in those five games.) scared them away from what I've heard.(That was also the case with Aaron Thomas who was headed to West Virginia.) Hopefully,Ward will live up to his potential. He is more of a power runner than Harvey was, with less speed .John Mcoy also returns and he is fairly capable, with a good attitude and work ethic.

Thanks for the info. I have to say that although I think UNH may be down a notch this year, I still think they are a good football team. You guys return alot of experience and Santos and Ball are arguably the best pass-catch combo in I-AA.

Hard to say how good we will be at this point. We know we have quality QBs and receivers, but our schollies have not really hit the field yet. This year many more our schollie players will see action (most have red shirted so they will have an extra year of playoff elgibility as we go through the reclassification probation). So, pretty much the first two years of D1AA we have been using our players from when we were classified D2. And , probably those players who were recruited for this year will red shirt. They will see action next year. So, my guess is that no team will see a full contingent of schollie players for UCD until we are playoff elgible.
That being said, I really don't think we have done too bad in our first two years as a D1AA team (winning record both years so far). this year will be our biggest challenge as the teams (outside our conference) we have scheduled are very competetive and possess the chance to go to D1AA playoffs.
So, all I can say for now is we will go into EVERY game planning on winning, and not just planning on winning 1 in 3. That would sound like someone who could get use to losing, and us Ags have been winners for 35 consectutive years. We'll see what this year brings.
Down with Foe, thanks for the Good Luck- I think we will need it!!
