HBCU Digest is saying that Coppin continues to aim for the 2015 date to begin FCS play in the MEAC.

Savannah State will have a chance at not being last.

Can they please please please sign a player with the last name "Afeel"?

The stat sheet would be fantastic: Coppin, Afeel.

They've done a lot of construction. Look at the area of Gwynn Falls Parkway & North Warwick Avenue in Baltimore using Bing maps and you'll see a lot of older building and (before) and then the same area using Google maps (after). You can see a brand new soccer/football field where they hold the games, track, baseball diamond, 8 tennis courts, parking lots, etc. Not sure if they plan on building a more permanent football only area or if they'll refurb the old one on Pulaski, but that's where they are playing for the time being.

I knew they built a new arena. I've driven past it several times. I don't recommend doing that at night BTW.

I gues this field is in the center of campus? I'll check it out.

It will be nice for DSU to have another conference opponent only a bus ride away and the Hornets have had a nice all sport rivalry with Coppin over the years.

This cannot be good news for Morgan State.

UMES was allowed back into the MEAC under the written condition they restart football within 5 years of readmission. That was 1981.

Does the MEAC want Coppin State? With teams like Morgan State and Norfolk State pushing S.C. State and Bethune-Cookman, I'm not sure the best move right now is to add teams. There is a lot of strength at the top. Did anybody see BCU handle PVAMU?

Morgan State isn't pushing anyone in the MEAC and hasn't since 2002. Hampton on the other hand is typically a very strong team in the conference. If they start a football program, I'm sure the MEAC would take them as they've been trying to split into North/South divisions to make travel easier on Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman.

North:
Coppin State
Delaware State
Hampton
Howard
Morgan State
Norfolk State

South:
Bethune-Cookman
Florida A&M
North Carolina A&T
North Carolina Central
Savannah State
South Carolina State

That's a scary thought. Last lacrosse game I officiated on that field (~4yrs ago), I could only clear the drug paraphernalia off of the areas I'd be running in. Midway through the first quarter, the home team head coach comes up and shows me a switchblade he found on the field during the last time out. He asks if I want it. "No, that's OK, why don't you hold on to it for me."

Not over near Coppin/Mondawmin Mall. It's bad enough during the day.

We could call them West Coppin University and play them in the first home game every year.

No updates for over a year and the financial reports haven't been updated in several years.

UMES Football (http://www.umes.edu/football/)

Still a pipe dream and I don't think you'll see them any time in the next 10 years.

I stopped by Sports Authority last Saturday morning near Baltimore to buy a Canapy and noticed some George Mason sports team loading onto a bus coming out of "Country buffet" and was wondering what team it was since some of them had George Mason Football shirts on. I didn't think they had any type of football team. Is it only a matter of time before they try to join the CAA?

Their current conference (the MAC) is George Mason, Coppin State, Virginia Commonwealth, and Longwood. The conference just started this year in the National Club Football Association and CSU, GMU, and VCU have been working very closely together. Coppin is the only one who came out publically to say they wanted to be FCS by 2015, but as I said, the three have been working together and have gotten some help from Old Dominion, so I think they all three have the intent to eventually make the move to a fully sponsored D1 team.

I think it's great for Baltimore college football. If you think the college football apathy is bad in Baltimore, you ought to live in Philadelphia. In recent years, college football has never been better with Temple fielding some of its best teams ever, Villanova winning a national championship and being in title contention almost every year and Penn being as solid as ever in the Ivy League. But the locals can't think of anything but the pathetic Philadelphia Eagles.

Unfortunately that is the same for a lot of people in Minnesota who know nothing about any team other than the Vikings.

I enjoy watching football, particularly NFL red zone, from the comfort of my bedroom on Sunday afternoons (in between naps after an always busy Saturday), but I don't get the obsession of folks who only watch the NFL, at the expense of the college game. I also blame the media for not doing their part to promote college sports better in communities like Philadelphia.
