2011 Southern Conference Power Rankings and Predictions - Week 2.

I went 7-1 (c'mon Furman) this past week and a nice serving of crow served to me courtesy of Virginia Tech. To be honest, I did not think the Hokies had it in them. After one week, this is where I see it (this will change over the next few weeks):

1. Georgia Southern - Kicks off season with a W
2. Wofford - Survived a rather interesting game vs. Presbyterian
3. Chattanooga - Effort was good vs. Nebraska
4. Appalachian State - Effort vs. Virginia Tech not so much
5. The Citadel - Well done against a team many thought should have been in the playoffs last year.
6. Furman - Effort vs. Coastal Carolina not that bad either
7. Elon - Effort vs. Vanderbilt good until the 4th quarter
8. Western Carolina - Offensively, they were good. Defensively, not so much.
9. Samford - Effort surprisingly good against one of the best of the SoCon.

Predictions:
No brainers
N. C. A&T @ Appalachian State - Aggies could be the next inductee into the Kidd Brewer Hall of Pain.
Wofford @ Clemson - I doubt the Terriers will leave Death Valley with a W.
Mars Hill @ Western Carolina - Whatever you do Catamounts, please don't lose this game. That would break my heart.
Tusculum @ Georgia Southern - Tusculum's days of laying beatdowns of Southern Conference teams ARE OVER!
Concord @ Elon - Phoenix get a breather before tackling the rest of the schedule.
Stillman @ Samford - Bulldogs should have no problem in this one.

Not so no-brainers
Jacksonville State @ Chattanooga - This isn't last year's Jacksonville State and this isn't last year's Chattanooga, either.
Furman @ The Citadel - Paladins now face a Bulldogs team whose stock is apparently on the rise.

ASU - 42 NC A&T- 7 ( I would like them to score over 70, those would be the extra points that didn't make it on the board last week)
Clemson - 51 Wofford- 17 (Usually in state schools won't run the score up too much)
WCU- 35 Mars Hill- 10 (hopefully Mars Hill doesn't sneek up on them)
GSU-38 Tusculum 17 (Eagles should run through these guys)
Elon- 43 Concord- 7 (same as WCU)
Samford - 37 Stillman- 6 (same as WCU and Elon)
Jacksonville State- 23 UTC- 20 (Mocs lose in a last second field goal)
The Citadel- 24 Furman- 17 (the Cadets surprise the Purple in Charleston)

Predictions:
N. C. A&T @ Appalachian State - Easy choice. ASU wins bigs
Wofford @ Clemson - as much as I would like to pick WC and I do think they may make a game of it for a little while. Clemson just doesn't lose to lower tier teams in the Valley.
Mars Hill @ Western Carolina -
Tusculum @ Georgia Southern - GSU should take them easily but look for Frankie's team to put up a fight before GSU realizes they have to play to win.

Jacksonville State @ Chattanooga - I don't think Chatt is going to let this one get away this year.
Furman @ The Citadel - I am not convinced that a beat down of Jacksonville is a cause for celebration, on the other hand I didn't see much other than a third quarter drive to celebrate with Furman. Furman has a difficult time in Chucktown and I think this one could actually go either way, but I will be a homer.

Aggies 13 @ App 51: I think there are too many kinks in the defense to be a shutout, but it should be a nice chance to tune-up and gain confidence.
Wofford 7 @ Clemson 45: The Tigers didn't look great last week, but that's a wicked gameday experience that the lil pups would have trouble with even in the best of times.
Mars Hill 14 @ Cattywompuses 28: It won't be a pretty day for football, but WCU'll do fine.
Tusculum 7 @ Georgia Southern 42: As someone else said, Tusculum's best days are behind it. Eagles roll.
Concord- A little @ Elon- More: I find it hard to know or care about this one, but the flaming birds will win this one.
Stillman -Even less @ Samford -slightly more: Again, a whogivesacrap game, but Samford wins by enough.
Jax State 24 @ Choo-Choos 21: Should be a plenty fine game. Could go either way, but I find a few Chatty fans annoying enough that I'd rather root against them. Hooray for arbitrary pickems!
Furman 24 @ The Citadel 28: This could also go either way. I'm just following a hunch on this one.
