I'v been impressed with the re-sculpting of our athletes the last 2-3 years. No more 300 lb slow lardbutts. The entire team seems to be quick, strong, and agile. Now if the coaching can step up a notch, I feel that we can go deep into the Playoffs.

It was huge at SIU during the Jerry Kill era.

It certainly doesn't hurt, but if you don't recruit talent, all the conditioning in the world isn't going to change the equation.

When I played in the '90's...TTU had a weight room in a small room on the 3rd floor of the stadium. Entire team couldn't work out at the same time; workouts required "shifts." This past Spring, TTU just moved into it's new Athletic Performance Center (weight room, indoor practice facility, etc.) about 1/4 mile from the stadium. Reports were that significant strength and speed gains were made in the short offseason already. Coaches talk about a better recruiting tool, etc. They also finally hired a full time strength/conditioning coach/staff when Head Coach Watson Brown took over. Rumor has it that was one of the reasons the previous coach called it quits - he begged for a full time strength coach/new weight room and TTU didn't have the $$$ (was only using former football GA's for s/c coach). Another rumor was that an annonymous donor (possbily a certain Head Coach's famous brother) gave enough $$ to begin the project. *Rumor*
I think it can only help and let's hope it's payed off already...

huge part. Look at Georgia Southern's players from 09 then look at them last year and this year. Huge difference in strength and speed.

Furman made a big move and hired John Sisk… its not everyday you get the Director of Speed, Strength and Conditioning at an SEC school. You might say it was "Vandy" but he's played an impressive role.

From Sisk's Vandy bio: Sisk's pupils also witness huge results in the weightroom. Since arriving on campus, nearly 100 different Commodore players have bench pressed at least 400 pounds, including nine on the current roster. He has mentored four former Commodores into strength and conditioning All-Americans: linemen Justin Geisinger, Chris Williams and Gabe Hall, and quarterback Jay Cutler.

I hope this translate to bringing Furman back to being one of the strongest, toughest teams in the SoCon that used to be the case. Here's a video from the summer conditioning program:

It's probably the most important part.

Greg Werner, the head of JUM's Strength and Conditioning program, says it all in the comments section of this video. ;)

A lot in my opinion. They are very important for summer workouts and assist on game day. Nova had the entire team back for both summer school sessions when coaches are not allowed to coach. A good conditioning program also limits injuries in my opinion. Nova has a really good guy now who is dedicated only to football, not the case in the past.

Ask Robert Morris and Montana State what the thought of our linemen. Prime-time.

I remember watching the ECU players puking and passing out when we played them. It was a hot day, we had been practicing in the mountains obviously and they in miserable Greenville, but they were still completely shown up in conditioning. Our S and C coach is great and we are one of the most well conditioned in FCS or FBS every year.

It's been critical to our recent success. One example was in our NC season when we opened vs. Elon in the late August heat - in the 4th Q they were cramping all over the place and we just kept rolling.

SIU has a new S&C coach this year. Can't say for sure that it is because of last year's injury plague, but the Salukis were a very well conditioned team for the past eight years...

So any fan on here who mentions a win from the most recent season attributable to the subject matter of the thread is living in the past? Your western logic confuses me.

If you want to hear about how prime time NDSU's lineman are I wouldn't ask Ben Boothby, he made them look like pop warner lineman trying to play against John Randle, Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor, and Jack Youngblood...xnodx

Hopefully a lot as we just hired Ben Pollard. All of the players are raving about him and he's done a lot of good at other schools.

I suspect like most schools, W&M's is essential. Not simply for strength or speed, but for reducing the probability of injuries.

I'll make no excuses, we flat out got wrecked that game. -40 yards rushing on the day with eleven sacks? Unbelievable. Boothby is the real deal.

That said, we did some shuffling after that and had some success the rest of the season. Even after starter Joe Lund went down, a freshman stepped up and was part of that big push in the playoffs. I'm really looking forward to UNI coming to town in October, should be very interesting to see how they match up in the middle of the season as opposed to the start.
