The wooded grounds of Elon were originally designated as a botanical garden but have since been converted into beautiful campus for a prestigious university. Located in the heart of North Carolina, this campus not only offers an exceptional education but has been the site of several films, including Spike Lee’s He Got Game. Elon has been named the prettiest campus in the country on multiple occasions, including landing at the top spot in rankings by the Princeton Review and the New York Times. We can’t argue, and Elon takes the top spot in our list of the prettiest college campuses.

Solid list. I'd have Army ahead of Navy and Richmond deserves to be on the list imo.

I love the SLO area. Some photog friends and I drove down PC1 from SF to LA, and SLO was one of the places we stopped, right around sunset to grab some dinner. Wish I had more time to stay and check it out. Definitely one of the places I'd consider living long-term.

Looks nice, but reminds me of ski resorts through Virginia - everything looks exactly the same, too.

Except that we enjoy a Mediteranian climate rarely exceeding 90 degrees on the high end very rarely do we reach freezing temps and NO stinking hot humid days!!! Now, if we do want to enjoy natures gifts: Beach 10 minutes, Snow skiing 2.5 hours, Lakes 10, 30 and 45 minutes, hiking, mt. climbing, cycling... and all in absolutely beautiful weather nearly year round. I have literally, on more than one occasion, gone body surfing in gorgeous weather in the morning and snow skiing in the afternoon. Not gonna find that in VA. Don't get me wrong, I love Virginia. My father was born and raised in Norfolk and I have lots of family the Norfolk - Portsmouth area, but have no plans of ever leaving California's Central Coast

I'd have to agree with Cocky on this. Also, Samford University should be considered on the list. If you've seen Samford, you know that this is not just my bias. As for conference, however, I would say the SoCon wins going away.

JMU has some great sight lines as well being in the Shenendoah Valley and one of the best "Quads" in the country. When you add our women to the mix, it's gotta be in the top 5 ;) ... if I knew how to post pictures I would. And for anyone that says "but I-81 runs through the campus" ... I-81 is sunken and can't even be seen from most of the campus ... but if the west side of our campus is definitely incredible.

I know we aren't there yet but here's a video that contains several pictures of the North Alabama campus. The song is Bob Seger's The Famous Final Scene recorded in Muscle Shoals with a couple of former UNA students (Jimmy Johnson-guitar and David Hood-bass) performing. UNA has a great music production program that taps into the rich history of the Muscle Shoals recording industry.

Man, I never knew too much about Elon, it looks gorgeous. I certaintly wouldnt mind making a trip there for a playoff game sometime. It would beat Boone for sure.

I made the trip to JMU 2 years ago for our playoff game and wasn't all that impressed. Maybe it was the part of campus I was on? At the time there was alot of construction taking place on and around campus. The time of year/weather also had to do with it. The big pond was pretty much frozen over and I could barely feel my face, which made the experience oh so enjoyable. Or maybe its the sour taste in my mouth from the game. But the pictures you put up look real nice and it makes me want to come down soon and check out the additions to the stadium.

I'm no JMU fan but they have a beautiful campus. And, he's correct, I-81 can't be seen unless you need to cross the I-81 bridge. The area near the "rock" is the best part of the campus. Now, dowtown H'burg is another story but this thread isn't about towns. Another campus that should have been on this list is Washington & Lee. SMU should have been on this list, too. Also, the top 50 list seems to be biased towards schools located in warmer cities/towns (Pepperdine for example).

NDSU would probably be on the opposite of this list, if not for some awesome campus-adjacent development that has taken place these past few years, and the abundance of trees on the south side of campus.

WAAAAY too many buildings that look like this

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5045/5249282112_9af54ea590.jpg

Exist in the middle of campus.

Plus, most of the historic buildings on the older part of our campus aren't kept up very well.

There are bright spots to our campus, however, such as the kick-*** new student union, the babbling brook just south of the union, the tree-filled quad just south of that, very nice decorative gates located on key entrances off University drive, wellness center, the south engineering building, and all the new housing that has been built in the past 10 years.

But there are too many parts of the campus that would still be considered sub-standard university buildings.

Elon certainly has a nice campus, but when Florida State showed up on the list I knew there were some serious issues with the people voting. If ASU ever stops the seemingly constantly building since the 70's we may have a shot at making the list. One thing is obvious, the decision makers have never been to Boone during peak leaf season.

All of the PL football schools have nice campuses but i don't believe any of them are top 50. Colgate and Bucknell are probably the closest to making the list. Fordham has one of the nicest "highly urban" campuses in the country imo. Georgetown is nice but a little cramped.

15796

Overhead shot of the Quad. At the bottom right of the corner, just at the base but off camera is the new state of the art performance center that "closes out" the quad ... just finished this year and is really quite beautiful.

15794

Picture of the JMU quad and Wilson Hall at the top, from the base of the quad right by the tunnel that leads from the base of the quad to the performing arts center that was just constructed

15795

Picture from the east side of campus looking west. I-81 divides the higher elevated east side from the west side, but you can't see it in the picture. JMU is sandwiched between two mountain ranges, the Blue Ridge to the east and, I believe, parts of the Appalachian to the west.

15798

Sunset looking west toward the football stadium area (which is just southeast of the quad) from East Campus. One of the more stunning sights you'll see in the Shenendoah.

15797

Performing Arts Center at the base of the quad. Rendering, obviously.

I completely agree. Lehigh and Lafayette's campuses are about the same but i'd rather College Hill over South Bethlehem. I might be exiled from my family for saying that but it's true.

Worcester is much bigger than Bethlehem and Easton. I guess it's all relative since the Lehigh Valley is one big metro area.

Guys. No need to get azz-hurt if your school didn't make the list. It was clearly a subjective, and IMHO poorly researched, attempt. Somebody mentioned Alabama and Wisconsin. The one that really hit home for me on the list that I've visited is UC Santa Cruz. The picture that was shown in the link is not even on campus. It was the surf in the city of Santa Cruz. The campus itself looked unremarkable to me when I visited.

IMHO, it looks slightly better than most community colleges. Here's an aerial:

Fully agree with this...

Any best looking campus ranking that doesn't have Princeton Univerisity at #1 is just plain wrong:

I noticed 2 of the 3 smaller pics for Elon's portion were of the same building (Koury Business Center). Way to show off as much of the campus as possible

Well, the Elon MBA is nationally ranked in the top 5 by several publications.....maybe they were in the right place :)

I like the opposing extremes, either places with great trees and very large rocks, or the Southern spanish moss swamp country. If your campus is flat and not on some natural body of water, you can keep it.

So what? He makes money just like most other online media sites do? How do you think CNN.com or foxnews.com generates revenue since they aren't charging people to read their articles? Maybe we should go to usnews.com and pay a fee to see what their opinion of the "best" schools are?

add Wake Forest and UNC to that as well. UNC hospital looks like it's going to shift and transform into Trypticon.

The hospital is definitely a wart on an otherwise fine UNC, but I don't know where you're coming from with respect to Wake. Beautiful campus.

What spaced-out world do you live in?

Elon's MBA is not even ranked in the top 75 MBA programs in the country, let alone the top 5....

the top ten MBA graduate programs by U.S. News & World Report:

1. Stanford
2. Harvard
3. MIT
3. U of Penn
5. Northwestern
5. Chicago
7. Dartmouth
7. UC Berkeley
9. Columbia
10. NYU
10. Yale

Did I mention US News? Nope.

Princeton Review has it in the top 5 in two categories (#4 best administered & #5 best facilities) and BusinessWeek has them ranked #6 (part time). So I WAS wrong about the "several" publications claim.

Here it is plainly spelled out from my "spaced out" world:

Best Administered Schools:

1. Harvard University - Harvard Business School
2. University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Steven M. Ross School of Business
3. Northwestern University-Kellogg School of Management
4. Elon University - Martha and Spencer Love School of Business
5. Vanderbilt University - Owen Graduate School of Management
6. University of California Berkeley - Haas School of Business
7. Dartmouth College - Tuck School of Business

Best Campus Facilities

1. Bentley University - McCallum Graduate School of Business
2. University of Virginia - Darden Graduate School of Business Administration
3. Baylor University - Hankamer School of Business
4. Harvard University - Harvard Business School
5. Elon University - Martha and Spencer Love School of Business
6. University of Georgia - Terry College of Business
7. West Virginia University - College of Business and Economics

Those college rankings are mostly BS. And I'm talking about ALL college rankings. Too much criteria to sort thru and a LOT of it is subjective. The carnegie classifications are better, cause it's easier to put schools in tiers of performance rather than ranking individual schools like one would with the college basketball RPI.

UND fans often use those kinds of lists to knock NDSU whenever the rare occasion happens where their school makes it on a top anything list. But to be fair, NDSU fans do the same to UND fans vice-versa.
