Oakland raiders choose Taiwan Jones - Eastern Washington Eagles as 28th pick of the 4th round= 125th overall pick. Taiwan left school 1 year early for this draft and hoped and expected to go high second to low 3rd round. His pro day produced the fastest times of all draftees but he had several injuries throughout his career, had only been a rb for two years, and coming from a small schoo probablyl hurt him.
He has been exciting to watch and all Eagle fans wish him the best.

Sure... hits to the head are legal right? I suppose it was a Montana win and they just got the score wrong too. I heard from several Montana fans on this very board that were at that game and will tell you it was an illigal hit. I watched the game as well, there was no question. It was not a "pretty sweet hit".

Whoa!! Have to chime in on this! The photo shows a TEXTBOOK ILLEGAL hit. What's more, I was at the game and can confirm it was a good call by the ref. Player ejected and from what I have read in the news.... a pattern of behavior on and off the field for this guy. I'm all for hard nosed football, but shots taken with the intent of inflicting potentially life threatening consequences are just plain STUPID! Had that been a CP player hitting a Montana player, I would say exactly the same thing!!

Poll is irrelevant. If you read the NCAA rules, you'll see that targeting a players head with any part of the body (helmet, shoulders and forearm are specifically mentioned) is illegal. Read rules added/modified `08, `09, `10

2008 – The NCAA makes the horse-collar tackle illegal, revamps illegal contact of an opponent and simplifies the chop-block rule. More emphasis is placed on eliminating hits on defenseless players and blows to the head. No player is permitted to initiate contact and target an opponent with the crown of his helmet, and no player is permitted to initiate contact and target a defenseless opponent above the shoulders.

2009 – A rule is added to require conference review of fouls related to targeting/initiating contact to players. If a foul is not called, conferences are allowed to review plays and impose sanctions. As a result, several conferences enforce suspensions on egregious fouls using supplementary discipline.

Wondering about that hit on the punt return guy for Davis on that one play that basically cost us that game - sorry, love Taiwan Jones and gonna love to watch him with the Raiders - but looking at that call, and others like playoff games this year (shall remain nameless but yeah I saw that one), I'd say the stripes (as good-hearted as they try to be) need some further clarity training on these rules (but no doubt this hit was bad)?
