Who do you have for big time donors? Is Citicorp, 3M or Daktronics interested in some kind of sponsorship?

What was wrong with the old one? I'm honestly asking?

How much more capacity will the new stadium have? I notice that USD is upgrading the Dakota Dome will the SDBoR approve money for both schools to remodel their stadiums?

No State money will be used on either project. The capacity at our new stadium, that has been talked about, is 22,500, expandable to 40,000.

Too small, our avg. attendance is higher then the number of seats. It is also old (turns 50 this fall) and lacks amenities (no suites, press box is too small, needs more restrooms, etc.).

No way your avg attendance is bigger than amount of seats doesn't it seat 16000+? A new stadium will be sweet. More concrete pathes I hope. And better visitor side.

Our record crowd is 16,345 (SDSU 29 - NDSU 24 - Nov. 17, 2007), but we hauled in lots of temp. bleechers and sold lots of standing room only. Click on the video at the top of this thread.

But attendance at the UND @ SDSU game was 3918. I hope that was a fluke and you guys don't build a huge stadium and have it 1/4th filled. As for a stadium that holds 22,500 to 40,000....one word: JEALOUS!!!!

Yeah, I am guessing that SDSU averages around 10K attendance....

It was cold, 24 degrees with 12 MPH winds out of the North. Besides that, and I am not trying to smack, but it was the end of a bad season (first losing season in D-I) for us playing a even worse UND team. So yea it was not even close to our season avg.

Please let the record show that I and my crew where part of the 3,918. After the game we warmed up at the Miranda Lambert, Eric Church and Josh Kelley concert at the Swiftel Center in Brookings.

You would have better attendance if Miranda Lambert was at the game. She is hot!!!!

Always good news to hear when your conference mates are stepping up in facilities. Missouri State is in the process of raising funds for a Plaster Field expansion project as well.

yep, rising tide raises all boats.

Sure wish the planned Stadium renovations at Hanson Field in Macomb would happen this year. WIU's lackluster press box, absence of suites and inadequate and crumbling seating on the West side are an eye sore.

Jealous of exactly what?? Can't be that potato bin in Grand Forks, I bet.

If you meant "jealous" of NDSU's facilities, then I can probably see that, but I think SDSU is trying build up their FB facilities for their own purposes, not to try to one-up NDSU.

I think 40,000+ is not doable in Brookings. But I can see an eventual build-out to 22,500 and crowds comparable to that of NDSU (if more erratic per game due to the weather). I do see SDSU someday having a record crowd of more than the FFD could handle, but I really don't know how SDSU will be able to overcome the 3,000-4,000 November crowds.

As in I'm jealous that they get a new stadium at 22,500-40,000 and we are stuck in a dome with only 13,000 with no room for higher capacity.

Oh you mean, YOU'RE jealous. Sorry man. Misread you.

Your avatar forces me to automatically think you're always gonna post something full of yourself. :D

About the 40,000, I think that's something that even their AD has questioned about the reality of that happening anytime in the future.

But I think 22,500 can eventually work for SDSU. Problem again, is their attendance history is SOOOO erratic. There will be games in the future where that number is warranted. But there will also be games in their future where a 5,000 seat stadium would be too big.

Out of the 4 Dakota teams how big a stadium is too big? Could NDSU have 40,000 capacity? I think if Fargo keeps growing they could (since we are over 100,000 now), Grand Forks with a decent team could get 15-20,000; Vermillion I could see 10-15,000; but 40,000 in Brookings?? Seems way too high. 25-30,000 possible.

Ok, so why would you build an outdoor stadium that doesn't have the ability to be expanded in the future? If we did that we would be in the same boat as USD, UND, and NDSU. For you guys to expand you have to build new stadiums. We will be able to exp. as needed. The largest and fastest growing metro area in the Dakotas is just 45 min. from our stadium so it would be foolish to build a stadium based on how things are now, or just in Brookings, and not look at the next 30, 40, or maybe even 50 years. Just sayin' . . .

Here is our stadium plans, basically we are revamping the east side of our stadium. Should put Plaster up to 25k or so in seating.

The only way to overcome the November crowd issue is to have NDSU or USD coming in to buffer a second home game against a UND type opponent who no one cares about.

The other two that could help would be UNI or SIU if SDSU is playing for a playoff birth or conference title.

The November NDSU games have been awesome since the move up. Bison fans travel well and SDSU fans care about playing NDSU. I think most fans of both schools also know that when you put the two teams on the field they will see a very physical, entertaining game which will always draw a large crowd no matter the time of year, or weather.

As for CAS, I believe it "officially" hold just over 10K. We have pushed it to just under 17K. We averaged over 10K last year, over 13K in 2009.

I agree 100%. We are in that boat and it sucks. I think its good to have a wide margin of capacity to expand too, and adjust according to your needs. It would be foolish to have 40,000 right now when you know you are not going to have 40,000 people there. But 25,000-30,0000 would be a good number. Good luck Jacks on your expansion!!

With the crowds UND football gets 13,000 capacity should be sufficient for quite some time in The Shed. Maybe you can sell it out for once if a lot more USF fans make it up there this year.

25,000?

What is the projected seating capacity of the new East side Stands? I would put your current at about 5K and the main side at 12K, So what you are saying is that the new East side will be bigger than the West side?

West (big) side now seats 13,750. The new East side would seat 11,250 because it won't have the small bottom bowl.
