Southern athletic director Greg LaFleur is apparently in trouble with the law, after soliciting a prostitute in Houston...

This comes from a 'tweet' from WRBZ Sports in Baton Rouge. I'm sure there'll be more.

NDSU's last AD lost his job after trying to find a gay prostitute in Omaha.

When asked why he did it in Nebraska, he gave his Jesse Jameseque response, "That's where the queers are!"

Update...

Southern University Athletic Director Greg LaFleur was arrested and booked with misdemeanor prostitution while in Houston this weekend for the NCAA men’s Final Four, authorities said.

LaFleur, 52, was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Main Street, said Jodi Silva, a spokeswoman for the Houston Police Department.

According to the criminal complaint, LaFleur is accused of soliciting a person to engage in “sexual intercourse for hire.”

It’s not clear if the person was a police officer working under cover.

Not Jesse James. Though he denied saying that's why he targeted banks (blaming a lazy reporter), "illegal withdrawal specialist" Willie Sutton titled his autobiography 'Where the Money Was'.

In the same vein "I'd like to start a religion. That's where the money is" was supposedly said by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard

What's the big deal, who here hasn't been guilty of solicitation before?

and maybe you need to back off mikebigg...You and most of the SWAC guys have been pretty good about not trying to start something since I got on you last year so dont make me question my goodwill towards you...

Was there a common theme to what or who we commented about? While I appreciate whatever goodwill you showed, I would appreciate even moreso the freedom to respond to FREQUENT putdowns of my conference.

MIKEBIGG, this is national news. This is a big deal as well as a bonehead mistake.

As far as TT, you'll notice that most of his posting's about negative news come from TSPN, or he goes to the link that was provided on TSPN, then post it here. In my opinion, we need stop making negative news, but that's impossible because everyone has their faults.

We could always counter with some good things going on in the SWAC but I choose not to post anything here because TT is always on SWAC news.

Or we could post SLC news here that TT sometimes forget to post about. xrotatehx

It's been my experience that the wallet gets involved when courting the fairer sex at some point in the game. I've never understood why it's illegal to just cut to the chase so-to-speakxconfusedx

Update... press conference at 10 a.m. this morning pertaining to the Southern AD...

Not a problem - if I am missing something or someone else is - have at it! I think the latest stories - i.e. former TXST AD soliciting prostitution (yep - he's the Southern AD) and the new turf at UCA are already pretty covered. Do not think there's much interest...

I know there was another thread started about him being fired, but to bring this post 'full-circle'...

Southern University Athletic Director Greg LaFleur was fired Wednesday following his arrest Sunday night on a misdemeanor prostitution count in downtown Houston.

SU Chancellor Kofi Lomotey announced LaFleur's dismissal in a univer-sity news release Wednesday night, a little more than 72 hours after the 52-year-old LaFleur was arrested during a prostitution sting.

Lomotey said in the email that he will recommend to the university's Board of Supervisors that Southern women's basketball coach Sandy Pugh become interim athletic director

He didn't solicit a prostitute.

He solicited a police officer. That was the problem.

I sent this story to one of my colleagues and they informed me that LaFleur was seeking members for the men's basketball search committee... LOL!

And needing a new basketball coach as well. Interesting times for Southern.

Indeed. It's the nature of the line of business. You can work in the entertainment industry, finance, many others and have much worse happen on a given night than solicitation, in front of others in your industry. But when it comes to education especially, the employees are held to a higher standing...despite making 1000X less salary in some cases.

The new AD has hit the ground running and is trying to make significant changes, whether she remains interim or the tag comes off remains to be seen - but would presume that many Southern fans based on what I have read, are in the group that prefers change...

Monday afternoon, less than a week into her new role as the interim athletic director at Southern University, Sandy Pugh was all smiles.

Above her head, sunlight poked through a field of fast-moving clouds. All around her, trees swayed in a strong breeze. What a day it was.

“I want people to believe some fantastic things are getting ready to happen,” she said. “It’s a beautiful day here at Southern.”

FYI...

Former Southern University Athletic Director Greg LaFleur, who was fired three days after his April 3 arrest on a misdemeanor prostitution count in Houston, is suing the school for breach of contract.

LaFleur contends in a lawsuit that Southern fired him “before giving him written notice and an opportunity to refute the alleged cause’’ for his termination.

LaFleur is seeking damages, including his base salary for the remaining term of his contract, which he says was to expire June 30, 2013.

The suit was filed Thursday in Baton Rouge state court.
