That should be a great game! Lots of UMass alumni in Central Mass. Should be the one of the best attendance totals for Fitton Field in recent years.

Kudos to the Cross' Athletic Dept for putting it together.

When was the last sellout at Fitton, 1986 vs. BC?

How about sellouts at the other PL schools? Lehigh and Lafayette sell out at least once every two years, it's hard not to sell out Georgetown's unfinished MSF, and I think Fordham neared capacity a few years back. Not sure about Colgate and Bucknell, though.

Lehigh-Bucknell sold out in 2000, 16,906 was the official attendance iirc. Lehigh had a bunch of 13k+ games between '98-'05.

Last year's UMass-Holy Cross game at McGuirk under the lights drew 16,352. The capacity is 17,000.

Last sell-outs at Colgate were 1977 vs. Rutgers and 1982 vs. Holy Cross. We had about 10,000 for Harvard about ten years ago, which was a near sell-out for the renovated Andy Kerr Stadium.

Yes, since we left the entertainment business, that was the last sell-out at Fitton. We approached 20,000 a few times in the late 80's/early 90's, but I think the '86 BC game was the last Fitton crowd over 20,000. It was listed at 25,000 but I'd bet there were about 27,000 or 28,000 crammed into Fitton on that cold afternoon.

Great game to get on the schedule. They should play each other each year. As for the comment about Lehigh-Lafayette, The Game has been sold out for years. They limit ticket sales at Goodman to a little over 16,000. They could probably squeeze 20,000 with seating on the grass embankment above the south endzone, but that won't happen due to crowd control concerns for that game.

Sadly, this will probably be the last meeting between these two fine institutions...for awhile anyway as UMass goes FBS.

It was a terrific rivalry throughout the late 1960's into the early 1990's when both schools had scholarships.

Just think, Sader87... this could have been a Big East game... xlolx

The thing I could never get my head around was when the infamous Fr. Brooks decided to shoot the Holy Cross program in the back of the head.

Supposedly college football was "going in a direction contrary to Holy Cross' ideals". I have some UMass-Crusader game programs back from the time when they were a Top-5 FCS program and their roster was littered with Biochemistry and Pre-Med majors.

It sure didn't look to me that Holy Cross football was dragging the College's average down.xlolx

The rosters of the pre PL HC squads were full of future physicians, lawyers, business leaders, educators etc etc The league has been an utter disaster for HC football.
