View Full Version : Coastal Carolina University's 2011 Schedule - Three Open Dates

Recently we learned (http://www.coastalfans.com/?p=699) that Georgia State & Towson had dropped CCU from their 2011 schedules in favor of Houston & Maryland, respectively. Because of this, the Chanticleers have had to move their game @ Georgia Southern back to 2015 (http://www.thesunnews.com/2011/02/17/1986788/coastal-left-to-call-audible-on.html).

Here is CCU's 2011 schedule as it stands right now:

09/03/11 – Week 01 | Furman
09/10/11 – Week 02 | OPEN DATE (Previously filled by Georgia Southern)
09/17/11 – Week 03 | at Georgia
09/24/11 – Week 04 | OPEN DATE (Previously filled by Georgia State)
10/01/11 – Week 05 | OPEN DATE (Previously filled by Towson)
10/08/11 – Week 06 | VMI
10/15/11 – Week 07 | at Liberty
10/22/11 – Week 08 | Gardner-Webb (Should be Homecoming)
10/29/11 – Week 09 | at Stony Brook
11/05/11 – Week 10 | Presbyterian
11/12/11 – Week 11 | at Charleston Southern
11/19/11 – Week 12 | OPEN DATE (Previously our BYE week)

I was really looking forward to getting down to Statesboro this fall - already had my trip planned out.

I don't know GaSt's reason for dropping the game, but Towson was already scheduled to play Maryland. Then ESPN got one of Maryland's games moved to the date they were supposed to play Towson, so Maryland had to reschedule. Wasn't really the Tigers fault as much as BCS/ESPN money and the Terps.

Might Davidson or Jacksonville have an opening?

I think Tennessee State and Murray State are in play, too:

http://www.collegesportingnews.com/content.php?435-Ohio-Valley-Conference-2011-Football-Schedule

If I were CCU's AD, I'd take a long, hard look at playing a road game at Tennessee State at LP field on 9/24 (when they were going to play the Atlanta Classic).

Georgia State dropped because of the Houston game. Sucks too. I was looking forward to making that trip. No way in hell I can make it all the way to Houston.

So GaState is scared to play you? Too bad, it's been a good series with y'all. Looking forward to the next meeting.

This is not a GSU v GS thread.

This affected our schedule. By the same token, this thread isn't about you either. But anyway, I hope your school keeps it up. So why should we schedule a lesser program with a reputation for dropping games?

I would love to sse CCU play at Elon on 9/10. Right now Elon only has 10 games on its schedule and that is one of the open dates. Both OOC games are away, Vanderbilt 9/3 and NCCU 9/17, so a home game is needed. There's also some recent history there. With ASU looking likely to make the jump CCU might be a good option to move into the SoCon.

-WCU switches their Mars Hill game to Sept 17.
-WCU and GSU play on Sept 10, giving GSU a good home opener.
-GSU and Tusculum goes to Sept 24.
-WCU and CCU play on Sept 10.

Elon just announced a game vs D2 Concord on Sept 10.

I'm still not sure why GaSt and Towson dropping CCU caused CCU to drop GSU. Especially considering that they still haven't found a replacement for that weekend. Can anyone help?

It says they are scrambling to fill in the gaps and can't find home games. The only home game they could find would be on the same date they were playing you guys. So basically they could play you, but then there'd only be 4 home games this season and they don't want that.

WCU only has 10 games as well this year.

Does one of your two open dates coincide with any of our three?

I'd love for Coastal to play WCU and/or Elon.

Are there rules against playing the same team twice? I'd rather play WCU twice than play a D-II.

No rules against this. In fact, in 1998, UCONN and UMASS played twice in the regular season, with only one of those games counting as a conference game. I believe it was a late change due to Boston U. dropping football. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

At this point, I'm thinking CCU will move the BYE up to 09/24, the week after we play the Georgia Bulldogs. Which would mean our last date to fill would be 10/01.

However, just for fun, if anyone could list some schools that have 09/24 or 10/01 open, I would appreciate it.

Rumor around Conway is that we're talking to NCA&T, which is what I was afraid of. Does nothing for our SOS, but probably gets us a 6th home game as they're more likely to agree to come to Conway.

I'm going to laugh when both teams make the playoffs b/c they had to rearrange their schedule so that it included a SEC team and a DII team in the same season. Thus failing to win enough DI games to be eligible.

I hope it happens to GSU. That way we can chase Baker out of town with pitchforks.

FWIW, NC A&T probably doubles or triples CCU's attendance and that's why you're going to Greensboro IMHO.
