Chidi Oha, a 24-year-old Southern University law student from Houston, had never been to a football game at A.W. Mumford Stadium. Never saw Rickie Weeks play baseball at Lee-Hines Field before he left in 2003. Never saw the Human Jukebox perform live, for that matter.

Why in the world, then, would he stand for more than an hour on the bluff Thursday afternoon, with the temperature near 40 degrees, a snap in the air and a breeze whipping off the Mississippi River?

The answer, he said, is obvious.

As he saw it, when “SportsNation” comes to the heart of Jaguar Nation, attendance was a must.

Interesting story on Beadle and the concept of the show...

Good pub for Southern and the SWAC, who gets a unique opportunity to showcase themselves during MLK festivities.

Not taking anything away from the story, but hasn't this "Nation" crap gotten old yet? It started off with that stupid arse Red Sox Nation crap that ESPN invented to try to hype the Red Sox/Yankees when the Sox finally got that World Series win and now every freaking team in America is South Central Shreveport Manor Hill Towers High School Burning Beavers Nation.

When SU travels to away football games they have brought in the past anywhere from 10,000-30,000 thus the name nation. SU's old beat writer started using the term around 02-03.

And that means you're a nation? I guess you can be the Falkland Islands of sports. It's still a ridiculously overused term, regardless of who, how many, or when.
