These are JSU's so far

Here is some information about three mid-year enrollees at Jacksonville State that might help next season:

Alan Smith. Smith is a 6-2, 290 pound offensive lineman from Hinds Junior College by way of Pearl River Central High School. Smith, who played in the Mississippi Junior All Star classic will be a junior next season. The Gamecocks have had good luck with JUCO linemen from the Magnolia State, including former All Conference Center, Reggie Wade and a new starter on the team last year, Odie Rush. Lets hope Smith fits in well with that progeny.

Trey Smith. (no known relation to A. Smith). Trey Smith is a 6-4, 220 pound wide receiver that transferred in from Western Michigan. Smith is from Perry, Georgia, the same town that produced outstanding linebacker Gary Hunter in the mid-80s. Smith was a 2 Star rated product out of high school.

Arias Lockheart. Lockheart has already received a nomination for the All OVC all name team, but might be able to help the Gamecocks on the field as well. Lockheart is a corner from Highland Junior College in Kansas and boasts 4.37 speed. With the loss of T.J. Heath, corner is definitely a position where the Gamecocks could use some depth.

This came from Gamecocks Illustrated.

How does this work?

Keith McBride William & Mary RB Navy RS Freshman

There's a 4-6 year committment for the armed services, that's why the kid from Army couldn't get drafted about two-three years ago (he really got shafted because they told him they'd let him play in the NFL and he could serve out his final two years as a recruiter and then said Just Kidding! right before the draft and sent his arse to Afghanistan). I'm not aware of anyone leaving the military after 1 year on good terms.

Interesting rumor though. On the GT board people have said that he was in Statesboro visiting with the coaches before signing day.

AJC sports blogger reporting that it is rumored as well.

Apparently when UGA was recruiting, Mark Richt had the #1 RB recruit in the country come up for a visit and took the kid (Crowell) to practice. There the offense lined up in formation without a RB in the backfield. Mark Richt told the kid that the empty spot was his to fill if he wanted it.

Can't say I blame Ealey for being pissed at that. I would be too. Crowell hadn't even signed a LOI and Ealey had already lost his starting spot. No competition or anything. Pretty cut throat by Richt IMO.

Ealey is very talented. He was named the best player in the state of Georgia and the #3 RB in the country as a senior in high school. I can't say that I would mind having that talent at GSU given how much we run the ball. Given all of the players we bring back (and how young they are) and all of the guys we just signed, we are going to be a force to be dealt with anyways. Ealey would just make GSU nearly unstoppable.

Thank you Maryland for your clueless search for a defensive coordinator:

While new coach Randy Edsall looks for a new defensive coordinator, Maryland's defense is losing a former highly rated recruit. Rising sophomore DB Travis Hawkins, a four-star CB recruit (and the No. 14 CB prospect) in the class of 2009, is transferring to Delaware, according to his Facebook page. He apparently posted a message saying that he was "forced out by the new guy."

Matt Williams was former punter at Fresno now headed for Poly I hear via a JC. But could it be Justin Webber from Sanger maybe? 5'9" 185 CB, same class as Ebahn Feathers, so redshirted as true freshman in 2008 I think, played maybe one game last year 2010(?).

Is he still transferring to NAU? From what I've read he didn't even play in the Spring Game. Stengel did pretty well in Herrick's absence, and with that talented true sophomore RB Bauman, that'd be a nasty triple threat. If this kid's legit, I could see NAU being a darkhorse contender this year... that's if they don't have their annual late season collapse.

Don't think this has been posted yet, but only 2 for EWU so far:

Demetrius Bronson 5'11 225 RB Soph (University of Washington)
Andru Pulu 6'2 290 DL Soph (University of Washington)

We don't generally take many transfers, unless there is a player available to fill an immediate need. EWU also doesn't really go after many JUCO players either. The program has a good tradition of developing HS talent.

Just curious....

Isn't there a cut-off date for that, and he left just before that date? My memory escapes me...
