Just a quick glance so I could be wrong, but Del St has as many guys on the list (2) as does UD (also two, and all 4 are 3rd teamers). This may wrap up the Eddie Robinson Award for Keeler - basically has taken a team of nobodies to the favorite to win the national title.

The problem is who do you put? Nobody really stood out above the rest. Phil Steele honored three Villanova players on offense and did not feature any defenders either. In fact, I don't think anyone honored any Villanova defenders. They do have a couple young guys who could be All-Americans next year between the CB Pitts and both freshman defensive ends.

The voting at quarterback reflected the order of the Walter Payton Award voting. Western Illinois senior Matt Barr, Stephen F. Austin senior Jeremy Moses and Appalachian State junior DeAndre Presley have been invited to the national awards banquet on Jan. 6 in Frisco, Texas. The order of the All- America quarterbacks will be released after the unveiling of the Payton Award.

Well first of all his team ranking should have no bearing. You pick the individual based on what he has done and not his team. With that said that is a good choice. But here is my question back. Which linebacker on their list is he better than and not just in stats but in terms of ability/talent?

Start with LB Jer-ryan Harris, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Fr. A tackle machine, when you look at his stats initially... 129 in all.... until you peek at the fact that 77 are assists, and he only had two solo tackles for loss. Marquis is certainly ahead of him on my ballot - not that Mr. Harris is a bad player, but nothing compared to Kirkland IMO.

As long as you have one to put in there. For the record I don't have either on my AA list and I think Kirkland is better between the two. A lot of folks call out names but don't have one that they think should be taken off so just making sure! :)

Yup, there was a kicker in the state of Georgia who didn't kick half his games in a dome and was 19/21 on FG's and 45/45 on XP's yet got no mention...

The same team boasted a punter who led the nation in net punting and had 43 out of 56 punts either downed inside the 20 or fair caught yet received no mention...

So don't be celebrating too hard as this list isn't worth a whole lot.

Also, Mora was 4-4 outside of 40 yards- ALL outdoors-. He is also 95/95 on XP's in his career.

I'm really surprised Cribbs CB made first team while Rackley OT was named third. Most people have Ijalana and Will as the best two OL overall.

I think youd be impressed with Bevins...he struggled from 50+ early one but after making a little tweak about midseason it was like he couldnt miss and he was back to his consensus All America form from last year

Have to agree but Steed is up there. If I was rating the defenders in the SoCon I would actually say that my top five would be 1. Brent Russell, GSU 2. Mark LeGree, App State 3. Ryan Steed, Furman 4. DJ Smith, App State 5. DE Ameet Pall, Wofford. I also think that Laron Scott, Bryce Smith, and Kadarron Anderson are up there as well.

Pall is a solid player but a non factor in the big games for the most part, with much of his production coming against pass happy teams who weren't ranked and low level teams. I always say the true dominant players will get looks by the NFL and I see Russell, LeGree, Smith, and Steed all getting drafted or at least getting a shot. Pall is a limited athlete who makes what he does because he has a motor and doesn't give up on plays often. However, he does lack elite athletic ability and skills that Russell, Steed, Smith, and LeGree all have.

I wouldn't go that far but he is probably the best defensive tackle and should be the preseason defensive player of the year by the SoCon coaches over Pall. I think teams showed later in the year that you can make Pall a non factor while Russell only got better as the season went on. There is no doubt in my mind that the preseason DEF POY in the SoCon is Russell and I see him, Holmes of UMASS, Evans of UNH, Johnson of Montana, and Steed of Furman as the top defensive players returning overall.

When Will Rackley starts suiting up for Sunday games (which he will) he won't care too much that he didn't make the TSN team. That balance across the squad could hurt at the end of season awards. It's not that UD doesn't have deserving players, they just don't jump out at you.
