I substantiated it several times but you evidently don't know a lot about the FCS, bro. That's not my fault. I told you about the diluted playoff field. I told you about three 7-4 that would have stayed home last year except the AQ. I told you that our at-larges had seven conference losses between them. I told you that wasn't good in a conference with a poor OOC record. What did I get for that valuable and accurate forecast? Why, I got a little hissy fit from you and your pig salesman buddy who refuted my argument by telling us all that he is very wealthy from selling pigs and he makes a lot of money and lives in Chicago. NOt a single football related fact to attempt to bolster your flimsy case.

Yea, it looked like they cleared it off before the game, and then again at halftime. I think it was just snowing too much to keep the field clear for very long.
We caught them off-guard in the first part of the 1st quarter, but once they realized that there was a football game going on, there was no stopping their running game. Our D just had no answer for it. Didn't help that, other than one or two drives, our offense couldn't really get on track (credit to the ASU Defense...they're some fast guys).

Good luck in the rest of the playoffs, Appalachian State.

I might be mistaken but I thought the rules in college were different. It doesn't matter if you are in the end zone as long as the ball does not cross the plane. If I remember correctly, we benefitted from a call like that against UNI in the 2005 Championship.

If that is the case, then is it a touchdown when a receiver catches with feet in the endzone but is pushed out before ball breaks the plane?

Nice season WIU. The offensive and defensive lines were just too dominate today and the weather certainly hindered both teams passing attack with the advantage going to the more physical and quicker Apps in the trenches. Dre can flat out fly too!

Just watched the replay on espn3. Good start for the Necks, poor turnovers, but I give credit to the App defensive pass rush and DB's for that. I could tell early on that your speed was just WAY too much. (Not surprised) Your D-Line is very fast and that could very well be the difference in your next game against Villanova. I think your DB's are ok, not bad though. Pressley is very quick and does an excellent job with the zone read. Great team, great atmosphere, where were all the fans? Other posters spoke of a crowd in the mid-upper 20,000's for this game. I understand the weather was poor, but still.

Good season for Western. I'm glad the program is getting back to where it should be.

Well, on one hand, yes, the crowd could, and should, have been bigger.

On the other hand, conditions were crap, roads were bad, and the road from Boone down to Charlotte (and many other points south) is pretty tricky when the weather's bad. And, of course, the 13k+ in this game is still, what, 4k more than WIU's average 2009 attendance? Just sayin'.

very surprised appy did not clear off fieldturf!! need plows & brushes......like us NORTH schools have!
We had dump trucks with plows and other vehicles clearing off the field before and halftime of the game. The band gave up their planned halftime performance so they could do that. Also had snowblowers and brooms clearing off the yardage markers and other lines. None of U NORTH schools would have been able to do any better, it was just coming down too hard to keep it that clear. Actually the CAA Refs kept telling Coach Moore what a wonderful job the stadium crew and others were doing making the stadium playable. Boone got over 120 inches of snow last year, about three or four times what any city in Alaska got. So we are prepared, and we know how to handle it....even if we are not a NORTHERN school. You don't have to be a Yankee to know how to get snow off a field.

Not to those who have seen WIU in person.
Early, early self effacing rhetoric.

Looks like a pretty good day to play football.
Was a little warm actually, didn't even stay down in the 20's.

Bad tackling or is WIU too slow?
Too slow and bad tackling.

Wow...those are the 2 options? I think ASU just had excellent blocking.
Ow, probably true also. Got me on that one.

It looked like a missed assignment on that TD run.
OK, so four possibilities. "It is what it is." as Coach Fox of the Panthers says.

WIU punts back to ASU. They have the ball around midfield. Hope this doesn't get too ugly too soon.
If only you had known.

Maybe traction on the field?
Same for both teams.

Too late, I think.
Ow yeah.

Yea, it's ugly already. It's not completely over, but we gotta completely turn things around after halftime to have any kind of shot.
Pretty bad when that is being said before the second half starts.

Ugly for us WIU fans. I'm sure it looks quite lovely if you are pullin for Appy.

Appy's D-linemen are having their way with the 'Necks O-line.
That's why we recruite them.

I also think App's O-line is having success against the Neck's D.
True.

Nice job on the Monday morning QB impression. Didn't hear anything from you when we were up 7-0...but you come out of the woodwork when winning don't ya? He knew it would change. App almost always plays hugely conservative at first in any game, then makes adjustments.

We have plows and brushes, but when its snowing that hard there is not much you can do. They are cleaning every time out. Cleaned at half-time, changed to sleet now.
Save your breath. We cannot know anything about snow in Boone, because we are not a NORTHERN school.

TD ASU, Presley finally decided to throw the ball. 35-7 soon. Ugh.
He didn't really have to throw today.

The field crew had it cleared by 10 am, that was snow that fell between then and kickoff. BTW 35-7
See above.

Agreed, he was clearly in the end zone, you guys should have had that at the 20.
Glad you, I, the television announcers, the fans that saw it and the players.....shame the refs from the CAA just wanted us to start at the one inch line.

Yeah, it was a blown call. No...the last 30 seconds of the 1972 Olympic basketball US/USSR were the worst calls ever.
This was pretty bad, that basketball call was something else though.

Kind of funny actually. If this was realy tight I wouldn't think it was.
"That's what she said."

The way I would put it is that DeAndre Presley and company have more speed than WIU. He has repeatedly beaten the Leathernecks to the corners. There has also been great blocking by ASU all day.
Yeah. He is fast. Was good blocking.

Actually one of the U.S. players from that game might be in the crowd today. Tommy Burleson, the 7-4 center, lives in nearby Newland. Didn't see him there, he normally sticks out like a 7 foot 4" pole.

They showed that play on the scoreboard here and you could see clearly the guy didn't reestablish position in the field of play. The CAA crew has had almost as bad a day as the Leathernecks.
CAA crew wasn't having even that bad a day.

We're punting on 4th down now.
5 minutes left, ASU up 42-14
Just well to.

I guess we now know this one is officially a blowout when fans are switching to the 1972 Olympic Basketball Tournament.
Priceless.

Well, I was watching it during timeouts and commercials while watching the game...but you can think what you want.
Ow sure.

Pretty much how I told the Neck fans it would go - they accused me of hatin' on the MVC because the Dawgs didn't make the playoffs. Probably won't hear from those two til next year, if then.
Why does App State never get any respect?

It happens.
Yes, it does happen.

Again. We give up some early scores watching what the opponents do. Can be worth it to get a good idea of what to do.

Very fast as I was trying to tell you all week!!.. Hats off to WIU, Barr was about as good as I expected him to be(sorry), great turn around from last season.. Lets go ASU, lets punch that ticket.

APPP!!
WIU does have a good QB. Shame he couldn't show even more of what he can do.

Good luck next year WIU. Hope your fans had a good time in difficult snow conditions.
Some kids were studying for finals. Understand a tractor trailer ran off the road in the snow and sleet blocking one major four lane highway up the mountain, some people had to turn around and didn't have time to take the extra hour detour to get up to Boone. May have cut down on some fans, plus App State owns a ski mountain that opened a couple of days ago and it was really crowded with snow boarders and skiers. Some people may have not thought the game was as much as a toss up as some of us did. No excuse, but crap happens.

Just sayin'.

jeez, relax a bit. I just expected more from what other posters were saying. I was led to believe that it would be upper 20's at best and higher teens worst case scenario. Of course I would take that attendance in a heartbeat, but I wasn't comparing Western's attendance to App's.

I remember seeing him clog around Bill Walton pretty good in a classic NCAA national semifinal.

I've met Burleson AND Walton. I've been in Walton's house, toyed with his massive (built for 6-11 dude) percussion set.

Didn't catch your original post, but if you are talking about Tommy Burleson, he's about 7'4". At least. And, one nice guy.

You need to get your rules staight and if you dont know the rules then dont post. You sound like a bunch of idiots. In the NFL, you have to re-establish yourself out of the endzone. In NCAA, it does not matter where your feet are. It is where the ball is. The offense can never score a touchdown on a punt UNLESS the receiving team first has possession of the ball. If the ball goes in the enzone it is a touchback. In the play in question, it was either going to be a touchback or 1st and 10 at the 1 foot line.

Thats the way to put your first post out. Welcome to the board. I hope a spelling Nazi does not attack you like you did these other folks:)

I apologize for my rant and my poor spelling. And I am sorry if I offended someone. I just get very irritated at people who think they know everything when they don’t and they spout off like they are an expert. Unless you know the rules, don’t comment on something on which you should not be commenting. If someone wants to be a spelling Nazi or grammar Nazi, that is fine with me. But I doubt anyone has an issue with what I said from a content standpoint.

You seem a little peevish there, hog boy, but I guess taking three bad beatings in your last four games will do that. Better luck next year. ciao.

Peevish, nah. We had a good season. Especially compared to '09. It's pretty cool that you live on a message board, talking about two teams you have no affiliation with, and wasting a lot of life way. You should feel proud, Southern Belle!

It was a good season by recent standards for sure. A little weak in the last month, but baby steps, Arnold, baby steps.

LMAO dude, I live on a farm; I get more done before I leave for my day job than a middleman parasite gets done all month.

And what do you mean by no affiliation? We've been beating up on the 'necks for so long now now that, hell, you're just like family; it's a shame we don't see more of you guys.

So you've got an 8-year win streak going against us right now. Did you forget our 18-year win streak against your Salukis before that? Even after the last 8 years, we still hold the advantage over you guys overall, 33 wins, 18 losses, 4 ties.

SIU went from perennial bottom-feeders to conference heavyweights when Coach Kill showed up in the early '00s, but there's nothing that says that the same couldn't happen to WIU. We made a huge turnaround this year; could be that WIU's 2010 is SIU's '02/'03.

I can't wait to see you guys in Macomb next October 1st to see how it all plays out.

Ancient history, Herbert. If you couldn't get it up for a shot at the league title with all those seniors, I'm not worried about next year.
