W&M has 4 defenders on the teams total. Towson has 3.

Yeah, that makes no sense. Does Grimes play on the coverage teams too? Somehow I doubt it.

I cannot believe that Matt evans is only 2nd team. No question that he should have made the first team. That is surprising

Delaware placed 7 players on the offensive teams & 9 players on the defensive teams.

For all the back & forth (umassfan) the other week of Devlin vs Havens - Offensive POY vs not mentioned...... just sayin'

Thats fine havens got robbed but thats okay. He should have been at least third team. Prob wasnt because UHN made playoffs and UMass didnt. (Havens was 1st in passing yards, 3rd in pass eff, 1st in total yards, and 1st in passing tds) But I guess that doesnt matter.

Also Mele LBer for UMass(4th in caa in tackles) did not even make one of the three lists is odd.

How did Grimes make first team when he was 5th in CAA rushing is bogus also.(to me special teams numbers do not matter in first team rb... they have a special teams spot for that)

These list have many flaws and im not just complaining bout UMass players

He has better tackles for loss... ints... sacks. The only thing Evans did better was tackles.

I think that you also need to look at FF and FR stats as well. I have no problem with Holmes winning Def POY,he had a great year, but you cannot tell me that Evans did not deserve to be on the first team

I think that it could have goe either way if you look at all of the stats objectively. I thought that Holmes sealed it with the 2 pick 6 in one game. Evans also had 2 TD's. One on a pick 6 and the other on a fumble recovery

Doesn't surprise me when you consider that coaches tend to vote politically sometimes and will pick a junior or senior over a freshman if they are close. I must admit I knew Ben Ijalana would be a stud when he overcame that to earn first-team honors as a sophomore in this very tough league. For example, B.W. Webb is a great player and you know it by the fact he made first-team without putting up insane numbers and he is just a sophomore. I do agree with you though that he should have been first-team. I am sure at least one media outlet will select him first or second team All-America.

because Grimes is the best RB in the CAA. He is the best runner, very good receiving, and very good at picking up guys in pass protection.

He was first team last year, this year, and will be again next year. He will own many W&M records when he graduates.

Being first team last year did help him this year. His numbers are down as he was limited in playing time a couple of games due to injury but his overall body of work deserves this. His Player of Year on Special Teams I think also gives him credit for being on the kickoff teams for coverage, he did a great job in several games in addition to a solid KR

That is exactly what I thought when I first heard this announcement. How in the hell does he get the shaft...heck he should be Defensive POY IMO. He has had an amazing season...hopefully he can help contribute to a long playoff run.

I believe you are wrong. UMass ended with the 2nd and 3rd leading rusher in the caa... they split carries all year and both had better numbers then Grimes. He got on 1st team only because of last season. He is not the best running back in the CAA. He had less yards per game, yards per carry, and tds then Hernandez. He only had 30 yards more recieving then Hernandez. Does not equate to 1st team in my eyes. I dont care if he didnt play all of some games because he was injured. The stats speak for themself.

He clearly got penalized for being a Sophomore. If he stays healthy, he'll be 1st team the next 2 years.

The forgotten man here for W&M is QB Mike Callahan. Doesn't appear in conference stats because he missed 3 games, and parts of two others with injuries. The way he's playing right now I wouldn't trade him for anyone.

PASSING GP Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yards TD Long Avg/G
Mike Callahan 8 154.2 113-175-3 64.6 1546 10 64 193.2

I think its biased in favor of the playoff teams. I don't fully agree with that, but that seems to be the way it is in all sports. That being said, I was happy to see so many UD players honored.

My first reply to that is usually "who would you drop" but I would clearly drop one or both Villanova LBs to second team and bump up Evans for sure.

I don't mean to isolate one game, but Toman was so much better than Havens in the Colonial Clash that it may have swayed the voters. I'm not sure I'd have either of them as all-conference performers, though.

The game in which Havens threw for a CAA season high 450yds?

Havens was first in passing avg/game, 3rd in efficiency behind Devlin and Whitney, first in total offense and had a CAA high 20 TDs to 7 INTs.

It was 29-0 UNH, with 12:17 left in the 4th quarter before he produced a touchdown... with the a lot of UNH's defense being 2's & 3's.

All purpose yards means nothing for 1st team CAA RB. He was 1st in all purpose due to his return yards which Hernandez did not do.
