Delaware State at Portland State (http://spawnofmzone.blogspot.com/2009/10/rewind-1980-delaware-state-at-portland.html)

In 1980 the Delaware State Hornets were a bad football team. They won only two games all year long, and were shut out on four separate occasions. The low point of the season appeared to come In mid-October after they got shut out by North Carolina A&T 52-0. But that was just a preview of what was to come.

How in the world did Deleware St manage 10 first downs with only 61 yards of total offense? That in itself is a little impressive.

I am actually proud of this...just goes to show how far we had come over the years. The 80's were actually a great time for the Hornet program, first with Joe Purzycki (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1125894/index.htm) who started the rebuilding process, and under Bill Colick we were truly in a golden age (MEAC champs in 1985 and 1989, and co-champs in 1988), and if we had a chance at the playoffs back in those days, perhaps the rest of the MEAC could have garnered the same respect that SC State is currently getting. I'm not saying we would of won a NC or anything, but we truly had some great teams back then. xsmileyclapx
