Who is the current front runner for the Payton?

Presley of App (before the WCU game): 1341 Passing Yards, 14 TDs, ZERO ints; 510 yards rushing 7 TDs

Riddle of Elon: 2208 passing yards, 20 TDs, only 6 ints, 315 ypg, 67.2 comp%,

Who else?

After his performance in the Battle of the Piney Woods, Jeremy Moses seems one of the top candidates, barring anything freakish over the next few weeks.

Make that 1495 yards passing, 583 yards rushing for Deandre Presley.

Thats 2151 total yards, 25 total touchdowns, ( one TD recieving.) Oh and ZERO interceptions STILL, leads the nation in passing efficiency (176.11 rating) and ranks second in points responsible for (22.0 ppg) and seventh in total offense (303.0 ypg).

The ZERO ints is a pretty amazing stat at this point in the season. xnodx

on a team that usually has the game in hand by the 4th quarter so Presley usually only plays around 3 quarters a game....riddle hasnt had that luxury this season.

Of course, zero INTs is also as much a credit to the receivers as the QB (just making sure the WRs get some love).

I would mention BJ Coleman as a candidate, but I don't want this to turn into a 15 page discussion on Armanti,Presley,Riddle,Coleman. We'll be happy to have BJ win it next year. ;)

You could also mention WR Joel Bradford who had 274 today vs Furman and is nearing 1,000 for the season.

As Russ Huesman said this week...he's sneaky, sneaky.

Didn't really know where to put this ... so I guess this is as good a place as any

QB Presley's passion includes written word (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/10/22/1780761/qb-presleys-passion-includes-written.html)
ASU quarterback leads the nation in passing efficiency, but writing has become his outlet

Don't know how it can be anyone other than Presley. The offensive numbers are absolutely ridiculous.

I would have to agree here. If the season keeps playing out as is, I would think this would be the final three (in order of voting):

1. Presley - As the JMU fan said, RIDICULOUS numbers
2. Moses - Just simply consistant.....20 TDs and only 3 INTS, great QB
3. Riddle - Even though he's on a losing team, he still putting up GREAT numbers. Still breaking records and on pace to out perform his freshman year in which he broke several NCAA records

How about Denarius McGhee of MSU.
G QBRat Att Comp Pct Yds Y/A Y/G TD Int Rush Yds Y/G Avg TD
7 149.2 203 124 61.1 1675 8.3 239.3 14 4 45 112 16.0 2.5 1

Oh yeah, he is not on the watch list.

I will go with Presley due to his duel threat capability

I'm rooting for Moses. He has a special place in the heart of some Griz fans, especialy those of us who were at Red's that night two days before the SFA playoff game in Missoula last December, when we were drinking beers and going shots with him (and others). You could tell he was a great guy. Hope he gets it. I see that SFA is no. 1 in the nation in passing offense (and last in time-of-possession).

If TJ hadn't missed the equivalent of two games due to injury, he'd likely be 1 or 2. As it stands, he's still in the conversation (120 for 879 and 7 TDs rushing, 13 for 228 and 2 TDs receiving) after putting up back to back stellar performances against UNC (21 for 168, 3 TDs) and Sac State (17 for 145 and 1 TD) with a 70+ yard run in each, and 5 70+ yard plays on the season.

As great of a career as Riddle has had, he really has no shot at the Payton Award this year. A 2-5 record, fair or not to Riddle, keeps him out of the conversation.

I post a weekly outlook on CS.com. I have had Presley #1 for the Payton for a few weeks now. I will start posting here if you guys would like as long as the usual folks don't try to stir the pot and get into malicious attacks. We have had some discussion over at CS.com but I would be curious to hear from some of the folks here. Give me an hour or two and I will post it on here.

South Dakota State running back Kyle Minett needs to be on the list. He's got 882 yards rushing and 153 receiving with 6 TD's this season playing one of the tougher schedules in the country. Also has a 6 game streak of 100 yard games going.
