The MEAC knows that the best way to get attendance is to have a local team go off against one of the teams from the SWAC that travels - smart move.

The attendance this past year reflected badly on the MEAC side of the field... should turnaround, especially if B-CU is coming off a great year...

DAYTONA BEACH -- When the MEAC/SWAC Challenge football game was moved to Orlando two years ago, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference thought nearby Bethune-Cookman would be a natural to represent the conference.

But B-CU turned them down in 2008. The Wildcats and the Florida A&M Rattlers decided they would not be a part of the Labor Day weekend game as long as it was played at the Florida Citrus Bowl, because they thought it could infringe on their own Orlando game -- the Florida Classic -- played annually in late November.

But B-CU president Dr. Trudie Kibbe Reed has since had a change of heart. Reed said Monday that the Wildcats have signed a contract to play in the game next September against a team from the Southwestern Athletic Conference. It will be televised by ESPNU, she said.
