MSU recruit Mark Desin and Harvard recruit Chris Carlson have been chosen as 2 of the 50 Old Spice Red Zone National Players of the Year for high school football. Great news for both athletes and I wish them the best of luck with their collegiate futures.

Billings Gazette:

Chris Carlson of Billings West and Mark Desin of Billings Senior have been selected as two of 50 Old Spice Red Zone National Players of the Year for high school football.

The 50 players were selected from a pool of 4,500 nominees nationwide and were featured in a full-page advertisement in Thursday's USA Today sports section.

The Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year is awarded to "athletes who embody and exemplify leadership and performance on and off the field."

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Carlson earned first team all-state honors at four positions after helping West to a 13-0 record and the Class AA state championship last fall. He was all-state as a cornerback, receiver, punter and punt returner.

For the season, Carlson caught 36 passes, averaging 25 yards per catch and scoring 12 touchdowns. He returned 12 punts for a 21.3 average with three touchdowns.

On defense, Carlson averaged 4.7 tackles per game and intercepted two passes. He also averaged 43.4 yards per punt.

The 5-10, 170-pound Desin threw for 9,005 yards and 65 touchdowns in two-plus years as the starting quarterback at Senior. He also rushed for 1,820 yards and 27 touchdowns in his career.

Desin helped the Broncs advance to the Class AA championship game in 2003 and the state semifinals in 2005.

Carlson has signed to play football at Harvard in the fall, while Desin has signed to play football at Montana State.
