A look at the FCS nooks and crannies that lie just beyond the beaten path. It is The CSN Way. A way away from and into the fray.

Conference Rundown: Week 3

Armanti Envy

* You have to admit it's at least a tiny bit suspicious.

Bringing in head coach Rich Rodriguez - a longtime devotee of the spread offense? Scheduling UMass - a team that reached the FCS National Championship game in 2006? And - to top it all off - installing a speedy, athletic quarterback that has dreadlocks flowing beneath his maize-and-blue helmet?

It's so clear to FCS observers: Michigan has Armanti Envy. Seriously.

Who led the Mountaineers to the shocking upset victory over Michigan in the Big House? Armanti. And who has Rodriguez, and the rest of Michigan Nation, been trying to emulate ever since in an effort to make their rivalry against Ohio State at least marginally competitive once again? Hardcore Michigan fans would probably gush, "Denard Robinson", but FCS fans know who they're really turning to: a poor man's Armanti. ...

You know, I love FCS football, but I also love all football really. And I never get why CSN has such a complex when it comes to comparing FCS football to other levels, namely FBS, and trying so hard to try to make FCS out to be so superior to FBS. Yes, having the playoffs is great, but there are tons of great players in both levels, and FBS certainly has more of them. It's not a knock, it's reality. Doesn't mean there aren't plenty of gems at the FCS level (and my username is indicative of that) but why is CSN so quick to hyper-defend/elevate FCS? Just enjoy it already.

xconfusedx I wonder who has the complex here? I read the article and there was nothing about how FCS is so superior to FBS or hyper-defending/elevating FCS. It is well-known that you are such an FBS lover that you pine for UD to go there but I read the article as pointing out what many, many people have noted. UM has an Armanti look-alike at QB. Just mentioning that and all the other "coincidences" ruffles your feathers? Just enjoy it already. xlolx

I thought this was an excellent column. You totally missed the boat on what Chuck Burton was writing here.
