I got mine as well and am looking forward to voting. Should be fun and I hope from learning from all the other posters on the ASG, that I can make a pretty fair judgement on what a poll should look like.

Now, now, now, shame on you, this should be one big happy IAA family! ;)
Ralph,
Thinking about it the poll is coming out too early for the preseason. Athlon and those have done theirs and they are always laughed at and with the bad preseason picks the poll showed last year I think maybe this poll should be delayed until late July. A lot can happen between now and then, especially in terms of grades on players and players getting hurt. If a guy like Chris Cogong goes down in summer training then I am sure that defense will suffer and so should their ranking.

Last year the preseason AGS Poll was done in mid-July and was the first poll done of the year. The magazines don't do polls, they are some writer's opinion. The AGS Poll was no worse than any others including the media/SID poll done in mid-August or the coach's poll done around the same time. The next AGS Poll will be done August 27-29 so adjustments can be made based on the Fall camps.

Well as bad as those are I want to be excellent and just thought that if fans had another month or so maybe they could give a better vote in the early polls. It should be possible and likely to finish with 12-16 teams to finish in the final poll. Just thought maybe the poll would be a little better if we gave fans who vote a shot to look at more info. I am almost ready but would not be if I was not doing conference previews already. I know most aren't ready and thought maybe they might need more time. I am good to go and I know you are but still things can happen so I am guessing we are doing an official preseason poll in August right before the season starts?

Plus, not a whole lot occurs after Spring ball and mid-July. I don't think much else highly significant will happen to change minds before Fall camp. There is a ton of info on AGS already and I think most people will be able to make a reasonable ballot. The one this month is the official 2005 preseason AGS Poll. I also kind of like it that AGS will be first again.

Which is probably why so many other polls had 13 right last year... ;)

A lot can happen. Not normally but there will always be some players declared eligible or ineligible and some players will transfer late who can make a huge impact. I think there is some info out there but honestly not every school has done a prospectus. I think they all need to have one done before we vote but some won't do one. I don't always like being first though. First does not always mean better. If your poll or award is better and more deserving then it will gain that rep.
The only thing I don't like about the criteria is that you have to have a certain number of posts. I would say if you have a ton like you and 89hen and people like that you should go automatically but everyone should mostly be judged on what they know. Some people could be retired and get on here all day long but only really cover their school other than what they read. Many on here put info out but admit they are just telling what they heard. So I just think that people should have to earn a vote by what they know. I just think awards are too political. Who says 6 A-10 teams can't be ranked or things like that? You said that last year and look what happened. I think those like UMassFan who make a point and do get it right some should vote over someone who just has 500 posts or 1,000 posts. Plus if you have only have to have 100 posts every year someone who admits they shouldn't vote could be eligible in a year or two. Just think this system is like the BCS and needs to be tweaked every year.

Get ahold of yourself. Watch this year and tell me when something earthshattering happens before mid-July.
First was best last year, what's your beef with the AGS Poll?
Don't get me started on my opinions on what certain posters here know or just read and see on TV. I'm not going to go there.
I did not say six A-10 teams can't be ranked. I saw umassfan's polls, not you. Whatever he emailed you, if he did, wasn't shared with AGS.
The AGS Poll is "like the BCS" is ridiculous. This isn't an index of polls and computer rankings. It is the voice of a community, one that happens to be the best nationally informed. You add to it, you know that's true. Only the members that are serious about the poll last anyway. Relax and work on your preseason poll.

Well it is not a community poll is it when it goes in a magazine? It becomes official and official polls need to have strict rules I think. I like the poll and it compares to other polls but most other polls aren't that good. I just want to beat them out by more than 1 correct pick. I just want to make sure the poll is as credible as it can get. No beef with it, just want to make sure it always gets better like I-AA.org does!!!

Many of us on AGS vote in all of them too (believe me, you would be surprised who votes in the AGS Poll and what they do for a living). It IS official AND has stricter rules than ANY OTHER! We are talking about preseason here sir, nothing is going to be perfect but the AGS Poll is as good as any other. It has been referenced nationwide. Let's make it the best this year (only the second for the AGS Poll).

 It stops becoming a community poll because it gets published? That doesn't make any sense. As for strict rules... we have them!
Must meet membership criteria
Must register for the poll
Must vote for all 25
Must not miss more than 3 votes
Must not show favoritism
Poll is monitored for abuse and homers
The truth is, our poll was as good and in most cases superior to every other poll. I'm sure this year will be even better.

That's true, and it has been. Last year we allowed ballots with only votes for 1-10, this year voters must vote for all 25. We've also added more people to the Committee to ensure a good cross-section of conferences. Minor changes, but that's all we needed.

I didn't think an official poll could be a community poll? I thought it became a poll done by an organization if done by more than one voter?

Folks, take this to an appropriate thread. Josh, AGS has a Committee (organization) with a community like the ESPN/USA Today tries with coachs and Sports Network has with media/SIDs.
If you did not receive an AGS Poll invite and think you meet the criteria please PM me.
Thanks!
