Former UGA offensive lineman Chris Little, one of the most decorated recruits in the Mark Richt era, has been ruled academically ineligible at Southern University.

Little did not report with the rest of Southern’s football newcomers on Tuesday because of academic reasons, according to the Baton Rouge Advocate.

The 6-foot-5, 350-pound Little will always be a “signing day legend” among UGA fans. Little, one of the nation’s most-heavily recruited players out of Twiggs County High, woke up on signing day of 2007 committed to Notre Dame, but switched a few hours later to Georgia — causing UGA fans at signing-day parties to erupt with excitement. It was like the 1981 Sugar Bowl all over again.

Little spent two seasons at Georgia, hindered by weight issues and a foot injury. He played last year at Northwest Community College in Senatobia, Miss., and provided some more drama on signing day — being the last Southern recruit to send in his letter-of-intent papers on that particular day.

As a senior at Twiggs in 2006, Little was ranked by Rivals as the No. 1 offensive lineman out of Georgia. He was named to the USA TODAY All-USA First Team and invited to play in the US Army All-America Bowl. He was also a two-time All-State selection by the AJC.
