Around the December break, many of us were told that a flyover video and announcement would be coming shortly. Well, around 10 months ago...April 2009...Heery was working on the design and environment stage. The flyover was posted to a public site by the company that did the video, Max Wave media.
Fast forward to three months ago...and the video was re-posted, however it was 5 minutes longer than the previous posted video. However, a codec was needed to view it. Well folks, the day has come and the flyover is visible at vimeo.com.
It is interesting to watch both videos because the latest one specifically has local leaders involved at the State and City level. It has all walks of the University involved.
Folks...this will knock your effin socks off!!!!! I would be happy with half of what they initially put out there. What I like about the potential stadium is this:
it's expandable
it's incorporate with the campus design in a spectacular fashion, with the fountains and the podium style walk-up platforms
it gives much needed space for offices/facilities
it will be devestatingly loud when finally complete
I love the big fat "UALBANY" on the tower
While I think the real stadium will actually not live up to this video...anything close would be amazing. Here is how I see this playing out based on what was publicly mentioned (phases and modular build out)by the University about 6 months ago.
Phase 1 will likely be the whole side that includes the tower, with lighting.
Phase 2 will likely be an endzone and the visitor side bottom.
Phase 3 will be the last endzone with the landscaping and fountains
Phase 4 will be the office building and building connectors.
Down the road, you would likely get the visitor deck and the endzone decks...rounding up to about 25-30k seats, the new four corner scoreboards.
Personally if we can get through Phase 1-4...and we pack the place and highschools/locals use it for other purposes, you will see money come in from Alumni and sponsors to build out the rest.
Again...have a look...and I have no inside knowledge of when this would start or if this is even close to the final design. However, the fact that it was made 3 months ago and boasts local leaders is a VERY GOOD SIGN...and quite frankly, I would owe Dr. McElroy an apology.
