. . . Meanwhile, Jake Gentile is the cousin of recent Jacks standout corner Brock Gentile. He's been attending SDSU games for years and - despite garnering newfound interest from Iowa State, Nebraska, NDSU, UNI, etc. in light of a stellar showing at a National Underclassmen Camp - literally jumped at the opportunity to commit. He verbally accepted the offer almost as soon as it came out of coach John Stiegelmeier's mouth.
"Out of all those schools," the 6-1, 190-pound Gentile said, "I wanted to go to South Dakota State." . . . (read more)

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The quarterback for Washington High in Sioux Falls has verbally committed to playing football at the University of Montana.

Matt Hermanson was recruited to play free safety for the Grizzlies, his dad, Washington High coach Brian Hermanson, told the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader.

Matt Hermanson helped the Warriors to a Class 11AA state title as a junior. He played quarterback but also had 79 tackles and seven interceptions on defense.

Hermanson also had scholarship offers from North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota and South Dakota State. Brian Hermanson played at SDSU from 1978-80, where he was teammates with Montana defensive coordinator Mike Breske.

Gentile to play football at SDSU

St. Albert running back looks forward to being a Jackrabbit

Jake Gentile won’t have to worry about his college decision during his final year at St. Albert.

The senior running back pledged Wednesday to play football at South Dakota State University, starting in the fall of 2011.

Although other schools like Northern Iowa, Nebraska and Iowa State expressed interest, Gentile said the positive atmosphere and the chance to play some big-name competition immediately factored into his decision.

“They offered the day before our Nishnabotna (substate baseball) game, and they gave me two weeks to think about it,” Gentile said. “But I knew right away that was where I wanted to go.

“Having the chance to play big schools like Nebraska and Illinois over the next couple years, I knew that was something I couldn’t pass up.”

Gentile won’t be the first person from his extended family to attend the school. Jake’s cousin, Brock, was a defensive back for the Jackrabbits from 2004-2007 after being a two-time all-state honoree at St. Albert.

Jake Gentile played a big role in St. Albert’s journey to the Class 1-A state football title last fall as a junior. He led the Falcons with 961 yards rushing and added 193 more receiving while accounting for 16 touchdowns.

While he’ll again be the Falcons’ feature back this fall, he’ll also concentrate heavily on defense. Gentile said he’ll probably be playing safety in college and also will attempt to return kickoffs and punts on special teams. . . . (read more)
