I was reading the press release for the television announcement of the Furman v. South Carolina game this season:

"The Paladins defeated the Gamecocks, 28-23, in 1982 in the last meeting between the two schools. South Carolina owns a 26-20-1 advantage over Furman in a series that began in 1892 with a 44-0 Furman victory."

Any other FCS programs own that kind of record against an FBS school? I knew Furman hasn't played USC since the early 80s (excuse me, USC has refused to play us since we whipped their tails), but I was pretty impressed as to how close that series has been over nearly 50 games.

I heard OL FU was even at that 1892 clash. :) Apparently there was no Sir Paladin as horses had not yet been introduced to the New World.

I know that Colgate is 31-29-5 vs. Syracuse. They meet again this year. Lafayette is 30-41-1 vs. Rutgers. Lehigh and Lafayette both have winning records vs. West Virginia. Temple has never beaten Lehigh or Lafayette.

And Lafayette has never been defeated by either Richmond or Villanova, but that's a story for another day . . . . xnottalkingx

Still leading the all-time series, though we haven't met since 1987
xthumbsupx

We're also:
15-27 vs. Rutgers (1933-1993, which includes the unfortunate events in Giants Stadium 1976 and the hammering we gave them the next year)
4-9-1 vs. Penn State (1911-1980)
4-1 vs. Michigan State (last meeting 1930)
5-22-2 vs. Army (1903-1997)
0-9 vs. Duke (1936-1991)
1-4 vs. Tulane (1933-1937)
8-7 vs. Buffalo, though only 1-0 since they made the move up
4-3 vs. UConn, though only 0-1 since they made the move up
1-0 vs. Florida Atlantic (2003 Semis, their last ever I-AA game :D)

Plus one or two games against Akron, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Pitt, Temple, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, mostly from back when we were really big time in the 1920s through 1940s

Princeton leads its series with Rutgers 53-17-1. The Tigers also are 18-12-6 over Navy (and, embarrassingly, 37-4-3 over my beloved Pards).

Richmond is 11-13 against East Carolina.
Georgia Southern is 2-1 over Western Kentucky, 2-2 against UL-Monroe, 7-4 versus Middle Tennessee, 2-0 versus South Florida, and 2-0 versus Nevada. These wins ocurred when the teams were all FCS, so I'm not sure how to score it.

App is 19-11 against ECU all-time, although the last win came is 1975.

14-8 against Marshall. 4-1 against WKU. And we've beaten Wake Forest at least 4 times since the FCS/FBS split in 1978.

Harvard hasn't played any of them since the Restic era or perhaps at some point during Ivy League era:

Fordham - 2-2 (1999)
Bucknell - 4-3-1 (1997)
W&M - 4-4-2 (1993)
Army - 19-18-2 (1991; 3 game losing streak for us)
UMass - 11-8-1 (1988; 2 game losing streak for us)
Rutgers - 2-3 (1974; last game was L for us)
Buffalo - 1-1 (1958)
Ohio U - 3-0 (1957)

and even before the Ivy League era (note: some dates are going to let you nosebleed):
Michigan - 4-4 (1942)
Stanford - 0-1 (1949)
Texas - 1-0 (1931)
Penn State - 3-0-2 (1932)
Navy - 1-1-3 (1941)
UNH - 7-0 (1939 xeekx)
Oregon - 1-0 (Harvard's only Rose Bowl, 1920)
Virginia - 8-1 (1947; last game was L for us)
Vandy - 1-0 (1912)
Valparaiso - 1-0 (1920)
UNC (North Carolina) - 2-0 (1928)
UConn - 1-0 (1946)
Davidson - 3-0 (1953)
Indiana - 2-0 (1927)
Georgia - 1-0 (1921)
Florida - 2-0 (1929)
Maine - 11-0 (1920)
Purdue - 0-1 (1927)
Rhode Island - 1-0 (1923)

And we have played some that have discontinued football and may never will return again:
Northeastern - 7-1 (2004)
Vermont - 2-0 (1930)

Well, we also have played a Japanese university:
Kyoto - 1-0 (1997)

Some other opponents were against prep schools, military camps and Division III schools.

Dang that was cold :-)

And we didn't need horses, but we invented Yosef and later gave him to Appalachian since we were called the Mountaineers in them thar days.

Elon doesn't have much of a record against current FBS schools, including winless records against NC St., Duke, and Wake Forest. However Elon is 1-2 against the U (win coming from 1928) and South Florida (win coming from 1997). We are also 9-9 against East Carolina

I'm only using a couple from the recent FCS/FBS format not from the way back machine where they weren't separated and everybody was in basically the same division.

Griz are 2-0 against Oregon St. and the last game in 1996 we were punishing them until garbage time.
Griz are 4-1 against Idaho since they went FBS in 1996.

I believe we're also 15-12-2 vs UL-Lafayette...last time we played them, we shut them out 7-0 in the mud, in 1981.

We're 9-8 vs Troy.

2-0 vs Western Kentucky.

We're also 1-0 vs Boise State and Auburn.

2-1 vs Central Florida.

1-1 vs Memphis

6-25 vs Louisiana Tech, though most of them were close.

3-16 vs Southern Miss and a lot of those were close.

Not to be a nitpicker but... the ncaa didnt split into divisions until 1955. None of those could possibly be a 1-A national championship. Its either small college or large college i think.
