Picked this up off the Southeastern La. Twitter...hoping for the best for Sam Sawyer. If any of our Great West friends, particularly those in Coyote Country have updates, please share with the FCS community...
Sam Sawyer, a kicker on the University of South Dakota football team, remains hospitalized in Rapid City following a skiing accident in the Black Hills a week ago.
Sawyer, a freshman walk-on from Brandon Valley who handled most of the kickoffs for the Coyotes last season, was skiing with friends at Terry Peak during a break from school when the accident occurred.
Sawyer, 20, was taken to a Deadwood hospital after the Jan. 7 accident, then airlifted to Rapid City Regional Hospital. Doctors said he had a significant contusion on the right side of his brain, in addition to a fractured sternum.
