MIKE TOMLIN KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT EDDIE G. ROBINSON MUSEUM BANQUET
Secretary of State Jay Dardenne welcomes Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the keynote speaker at the banquet preceding the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Eddie G. Robinson Museum . The banquet will be held on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at the Grambling Assembly Center , and the dedication will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at 10 a.m.
Tomlin serves as the 16th head coach for the Steelers and is only the third head coach hired since 1969. He also became the youngest head coach in NFL history to coach in and win a Super Bowl when he led the Steelers to a 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII. Tomlin accomplished this feat during his second season as head coach becoming one of only seven coaches in league history to win a Super Bowl title within his first two seasons as an NFL head coach.
Grant Teaff, executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, will also attend the event. Former Grambling greats including hall of famer Willie Davis and quarterbacks Doug Williams and James Harris are expected to attend. Secretary Dardenne anticipates that many other players and coaches from around the country will attend.
“We are hopeful that the eyes of the football world will be on Grambling , La. for the dedication of this museum which will honor a true Louisiana legend,” Secretary Dardenne said.
Act 1368 of the 1999 Legislative Session recognized that it was appropriate to establish a museum at Grambling State University to honor the legendary football coach Eddie G. Robinson. Robinson coached football at Grambling from 1941 to 1997, and he was named NCAA Division I football's all-time winningest coach after winning 408 games. He saw more than 80 percent of his 4,000 athletes graduate and more than 200 of them play in professional football.
