National Signing Day is scheduled for Feb. 3; WCU spring drills commence on April 6

ec. 18, 2009

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina head football coach Dennis Wagner today announced the mid-term transfer signings of four student-athletes who will play football for the Catamounts in 2010.

Two are junior college transfers in defensive back Reggie America (Coffeyville CC / Junction City HS) and defensive lineman Walt Woolwine (Garden City CC / Ashland HS), with offensive lineman Dan Polaski (Hargrave Military Academy / Long Meadow HS) transferring from a preparatory school. Quarterback Casey Turner (Chesapeake, Va. / Great Bridge HS) is transferring from the University of Connecticut where he took a red-shirt during the 2008 season.

"These mid-term signings are guys that will come into positions where we need immediate help," said Wagner.

"After the success of last year's signing class, it is looking to be another good recruiting class for us this year. Our coaches are doing a great job. In addition to these mid-term signings, we anticipate having anywhere from 17-to-20 guys on National Signing Day."

Casey Turner, who is a pro-style quarterback, played at Great Bridge HS in Chesapeake, Va., where he was twice named first-team All-Tidewater as a signal caller. He also garnered conference Player of the Year plaudits following both the 2006 and '07 seasons.

Dan Polaski is a 6-9, 300-lbs., offensive lineman who attended Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., after his prep career at Longmeadow HS in Agawam, Mass.

Reggie America, a 5-11, 195-lbs., sophomore defensive back, was named first team All-Jayhawk Conference last season after recording 51 tackles, including 33 solo stops and four for loss, in 10 games played to rank fourth on the team.

Walt Woolwine, a 6-1, 285-lbs., defensive lineman from Ashland, Kansas, has played the past two seasons at Garden City CC. He recorded 39 tackles a season ago including 25 solo stops and seven for loss in nine games for the 4-5 Broncobusters.
