The weakness was really the lack of a pass rush. Our best pass rusher was injured at the beginning of the game and once he came back into the game, our D was completely different.

Hope so too...although today the UNH players & coaches pulled out all the stops and got it done!!! Very nice to see Toman hit the long passes and is definitely more mobile than at the FIRST win over nova. Coach Mac should sense momentum and do everything to get the SECOND win over nova--this time in Philly. Get it done CATS!!xnodxxnodxxnodxxnodxxnodx

If UNH's effort today indicates that R. J. Toman has come out of the year-long funk he has been in and if the o-line I saw today re-appears next Saturday and plays at the same level New Hampshire will be tough to beat. I'll keep my fingers crossed that that is the case! They will have to be at their best to beat Villanova on their turf.

No, it's on Gameplan and ESPN360. In other news I just found out that DE Tim Kukucka wasn't hurt, but suspended for the first half of the game... So thats a big phew in my book. That also takes some balls to suspend a guy for the first half of a playoff game especially when he may be your best defensive player.

UNH playoff games since 2004;

04 UNH was ranked #5 @ #4 Ga. So, W 27 - 23, @ #7 Montana, L 47 - 17.

05 Ranked #1 vs #24 Colgate, W 55 - 21, vs. #7 UNI, L 24 - 21

06 Ranked #10 @ #9 Hampton, W 41 - 38, @ #3 UMass, L 24 - 17

07 Ranked #17 @ #1 UNI, L 38 - 35

08 Ranked #10 @ #9 SIU, W 29 - 20, @ #4 UNI, L 36 - 34

09 Ranked #10 @ #8 McNeese, W 49 - 13, @ #2 Villanova ????

What needs to to change from last game for Villanova to win

Scott Sicko can not single handedly take over the game (I assume the defense will gameplan around him.)
Chris Whitney must get good protection.. that was one of the things that killed Villanova in the first game. I expect to see quick passes combined with a lot of running, we've been throwing the ball downfield less lately but it has been working as there have been some absolutely nasty Villanova yardage outputs of late.
Special Teams have to be better than in the first game (Yako missed a chipshot field goal and Harvey made a boneheaded move to take attempt to field a punt from very deep in the Villanova zone.)
No stupid penalties (Antwon Young flipping into the End Zone.)
They must play a full four quarters and Chris Whitney must stay in the whole game.

The game would be a push on a neutral site but I think VU has a slight advantage as we have one of the best home records in the country during the last three seasons (not bad when you consider our attendance.)

But I heard Long's suspension was up in the 2nd half of the 2nd playoff game? Also, is Young's shoulder definitely good enough to play? He played the first play at McNeese & reinjured his shoulder? All this said, I take no credit away from the guys upfront who did it against McNeese...Mailloux, Murray...even Maroney was in the middle I think...but this would be the most critical game for both Long & Young to be playing. It may have been an asinine prediction to make, but ya gotta admit.... 99 of 100 times UNH outgains an opponent 631-350 my prediction would have held true.

59-28 was my prediction for that game, obviously I came very close on the UNI score and as I said, 99 of 100 times the UNH yardage from that game would equal near the point prediction I made.

:D By reading this thread. We're a running team and the consensus here is that we can't run against the Tribe defense, ergo, we gotta be the dog.

I sure didn't expect us to gain 631 yards of offense that day. It was asinine because you shouldn't expect any playoff team to have the same kind of production they had during the regular season. Besides, why even make such an inflammatory, controversial prediction even if it might happen? Especially when you weren't around online afterward to defend it and respond to the fallout. If the high score happens, then great, you get to enjoy it afterward which to me has significantly more value. Sounds a whole load better than eating crow and pissing off hundreds of people.

I really think that Nova's poor defensive performance vs Holy Cross will actually help them in the UNH game and for the remainer of the playoffs. I expect that Nova will take that as a wake up call and perform much better from here on out. As for the UNH game, my heart says UNH, but my head says lay the 11 points and go with Nova.

11 points seems like a bit much. For comparisons sake, the 8-3 Chargers are favored by 11.5 points over the 1-10 Cleveland Browns next week. I wouldn't be suprised to see Nova win by more than 11, but I think that this game is closer on average, especially after seeing how well Toman played against McNeese.

Yes, if I can find a place to bet that I will. I don't think UNH should be favored to win, but as I recall they've lost one road playoff game in the last 6 years by more than 7 points, and that was a slaughter by Montana.

Don't have much anything to add, but I enjoyed the read.

I had almost completely forgotten about the wind advantage UNH had in winning that toss.

One thing that SHOULD help UNH is that they should be able to have more video on reacting to the Villanova pressure. Hopefully they'll be better next time, though the same can be said on the opposite end.

Time for revenge :-) ...hopefully the weather will be nice for this one. I didn't catch a chance to see the nova/unh game - but I listened to it on ESPN radio in Philly. It sounded like the wind was a huge factor in the game, and it was so frusterating listening to the game in the 3rd quarter when nova had two different drives START at UNH's 35 and 12 yard lines, and couldn't come away with any points on either of those drives. And yes, it was also frusterating to hear Sicko's name being called so often. I can't believe the line is Nova -11. That is way to much! It should be a great game - Hoya - I think you nailed it in what Nova needs to do...especially in the special teams department and stopping Sicko. Go Wildcats of Nova!

1. Nova
2. UNH

If W&M and UNH win, I'd root for UNH over W&M in the semis (and that's despite my mom graduating from W&M)

I highly doubt it, if you want to go to the game order tix in advance and pick them up on game day just to be sure (you can also get better tix that way..) It would be nice to have another person cheering for Villanova :D even if they are wearing purple.

Shoot- $25 ? for a ticket (which I imagine wouldn't be between the 30s), $20 for parking, throw in gas, that's about $50 for me. I'm on the fence- go to the UNH Nova game or order ESPN gameplan for $20 and watch all 4 games.

BTW, weren't Nova's tickets during the regular season $20? That seems to be what I remember from the JMU @ Nova game last season.
