View Full Version : Longest Winning Streak Against A Rival?

Woof

The Wofford v. Citadel game is Saturday and with the way we are playing now, our 10 year win streak against the Bellhops is in serious jeopardy....but it got me wondering: which FCS team has the longest active winning streak against one of their big rivals ?

This should be fun.xpopcornx

If we finish 7-4 (not likely but possible) and miss the playoffs to a 7-4 at-large with 7 D-I wins (very possible to see a 7-4 at-large with the way this season is panning out), that contract needs to be terminated within 24 hours.

We beat Furman 7 in a row in the 50's

We beat Wofford 15 in a row between 1959 - 1990.

The best we did against VMI was 5 in a row twice with a 4 game winning streak in place right now.

We have been back an forth on the rest, mostly losing though.

This streak started in 1995.
The longest streak was the first 28 years in a row over Valley that ended in 1984 with Jerry Rice and Willie Totten.

Even when everybody in FCS kicked our butt's during the Bell years, we still beat valley.
We even took Totten/Rice to the brink when Coach Archie Coolie introduced the 1st version of the West Coast Offense to football, scoring 60 plus point's a game at Valley.
They beat us 49-32 in a shootout because in the end, RICE was RICE before the national stage caught up to him.
Valley fans partied a full week, until our next game in jackson after that 1st win.xlolx

Got so bad in the late 1970's, the game had to be played in Jackson every year because of the crowd, bad blood, and fighting that would break out in Valley's little stadium.

I believe McNeese has beaten NW(La) State at home 11 times in a row, going back to 1988, and the current winning streak is five games, but the overall record against them during that period is only 15-6. As someone mentioned, almost all of McNeese's conference winning streaks were broken in the 4-7 2004 season.

We had runs of 10 vs. Cornell and Lafayette broken that year

Currently, our longest winning streak is 7 vs. Georgetown, at least of opponents we've played recently

We once had a 10-game streak against Syracuse (1928-37) and 20 in a row vs. St. Lawrence (games played between 1894 and 1942). SLU only scored 12 total points over those 20 games
