If they win out, UNI will have the following W's: St Francis (PA), Western Illinois (just lost to INDIANA State), YSU (their signature win, I suppose?), NDSU (1 W so far), Illinois State, Missouri State, Indiana State (USD doesn't count towards the playoffs, as far as I'm aware). I think it's going to take a pretty weak field for UNI to get in this there with those wins.

BROOKINGS - On the 96th edition of Hobo Day, the South Dakota State football team proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is anything but shabby.


The No. 11-ranked Jackrabbits knocked off No. 6 Northern Iowa 24-14 on Saturday afternoon, thrilling an overflow crowd of 15,523 - the fourth largest in Coughlin-Alumni Stadium history - and taking another step forward as a program.


Not only did SDSU improve to 6-1 overall - its best start in 30 years - and 5-0 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, it did so by beating one of the elite programs in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Panthers have made 14 playoff appearances since 1985, reaching the national semifinals last year.


But the Jacks were the better team pretty much from the start - UNI (5-3, 3-2) fumbled on the first offensive play. They held the Panthers to season-lows for points and yards (327), bettering what the University of Iowa did against the Panthers in both categories and handing them their most lopsided league loss since 2006. . . . It sounded like we played terrible again today, but I think maybe we weren't as good as we showed against some terrible teams like USD, St. Francis, and Indiana State. SDSU wanted this game more than we did. They are much better than I thought they were. I wouldn't want to see them in the playoffs. The game vs SIU should be one heck of a game for the conference championship (more than likely). And things like this are exactly why I did not like being so highly regarded, and having UNI fans talk so much crap early. We had not played anyone, and had a ton to prove and our fans were and other fans were putting us in the National Championship. Now sitting at home for Thanksgiving is what we will be doing.

I am not holding out much hope for playoffs for the Panthers at all. I think we need a miracle. I know it comes down to who else would be on a bubble at 8-3, but we still have to get to 8-3. And I think if it is us an a SoCon or CAA team at 8-3 I think there is a better chance for those teams to get in than us because our best win will be vs MSU, while one of those may have a more impressive win either in conference or out. Heck an 8-3 McNeese team will get an at large sooner than we will due to big wins.

This is far from the truth, henfan. They don't have a quality win on their resume unless Missouri State looks really good down the stretch..That said, with the field thinning, they still may have a shot, and will almost definitely get a home game as a result.

I personally think this is still a pretty good team, I just think SDSU and SIU are also pretty good teams. I'd be surprised if they didn't win out.

I had the chance to play at Montana twice during my college career. The first time, a 14-7 loss, my ears were literally RINGING on the first play of the game. It was rediculously intimidating. Your fans know how to make noise - that's for sure!

You guys came to Missoula quite a few years ago, and helped launch the Dave Dickenson era real nicely via a season opener... One of the greatest college games I have ever been to. Great win on Saturday, lets both our teams tear up some of the east coast teams in the playoffs before we face off.
