Any UNH fans making the trip down? The weather for Saturday is calling for rain which stinks. Tailgate plans for me are still up in the air and may end up a morning decision.

There should be a good crowd of us there. The local alumni association has something planned. Lots of players are from an easy drive to the game.

No Ox though...it might rain

Who gets the start: Decker or Toman?

WrenFGun
October 22nd, 2009, 10:11 PM
I'll assume Toman unless otherwise noted, but I personally wouldn't object to seeing Decker. I've cooled down a bit from last week but really, I just want to win.

rcny46
October 22nd, 2009, 11:31 PM
I can't imagine Sean McDonnell benching RJ Toman in favor of KD at this point in time.I'd be surprised if he's even considered it,and will stick with his starter going into the season unless it becomes obvious to him that Toman's lackluster play isn't improving, and he just isn't doing the job. Here's hoping he can overcome the toe and ankle injuries, and become the QB he was for most of `08.

Unfortunately the weather still calls for rain. Seems like every game since last year rain has been in the forecast.

Anyhow, maybe i'll swing by the visiting lot behind the stadium if that's where you plan to set up shop. I believe that's where i met yorkcounty and a bunch of others the last time you were out here.

He has!! Over throw and under throw... throw behind you name it! And then throwing to people only he sees. I was a huge fan in the beginning but you cant teach accuracy!! Back up at best! Even last years Army win I wanted to strangle him but was at the game and proud of the win and how he handle the offense. And the pressure of the game. Look I want him to succeed I really do. Just he has been so bad with accuracy. But when he shines it looks amazing and you just start rooting for him again.

Well I generally root for the America East schools, but here's hoping UNHFan's assessment is right tomorrow!!

In all seriousness, it's going to be a sloppy one tomorrow, forecast already turning for the worse around here. But that should make it a pretty good game! A must win for both teams.

UNHlund
October 24th, 2009, 10:54 AM
Being at the UMass game last week, I can say there were too many bad throws and bad decisions from Toman. But what concerned me even more was watching Toman on the sideline as he prepared to go out for the last two drives, when UNH was down by 3, then 6. I saw absolutely no urgency or intensity on his part, nor did he talk to any of the other players on the team.

For me the difference was most clear in the Dartmouth game, when both Toman and Decker played. I saw a clear difference in the way the whole team was playing under Decker, and KD was more fired up after scoring a touchdown than Toman was after winning a playoff game.

Do I think Decker is more like Santos? Yes. But Santos would have won at least one, and quite likely two, national titles if he had even an average defense at his disposal. Toman has the defense, but I don't think he has what it takes to win.

Just my two cents.

I hope I eat my words today and Toman has a career day! I really do, it wont erase what he has done this season. We really need him to straighten this problem out. Only reason UNH took the Pitt game next season was because Toman will be a Sr. If this was Toman Sr year I guarantee we would be playing Akron or Bowling green types next year. I truly want/need Toman to succeed! We are gonna need everything we got to even stay in the game next year. TOOOMAN TOOOOMAN!!! Dont let me down baby!! But if he does it again today (Repeat last week) we need to get Decker ready!

Great job by UNH getting the win, but man if i don't feel like our ***** QB, clueless OC and piss poor special teams let you off hook. A missed 37yd FG, a safety on a snap over our punters head, a 30+yard TD run called back on an interior hold, garbage. HU defense was smacking kids today and the damn offense did nothing for them. Completely inept is our QB, i knew it was bad when our #2 QB who is the best one on the team was in street clothes nursing an injury from last week.

Anyhow, great job, great win, very bitter since damn, we had opportunities to win and we beat ourselves. Just garbage and i hope they fire Cohen, the OC and the special teams coach, pathetic friggin effort!

Sorry fellas, just hate to rant and leave. But i have to ask, Sicko is such a beast, they barely went to him today. After reading the posts, seems like you guys have some playcalling and QB issues of your own. Playcalling gets way too vanilla. Either way, an exciting game, maybe we'll get you guys next year.

This matchup had all the markings of a "trap" game. As such, a good, tough win for UNH over a very under-rated Hofstra 11. Can't get lazy in the CAA-ever!

Tough game indeed. A battle of two defenses and obviously two offenses that had their issues. We just found more ways to shoot off our big toe (i.e. called back TD, missed FG, snap over punter's head for a safety). All i know, Dave Cohen had 4 years and it's still same old same old. The U won't fire him if he has another year on the contract because i can't see them eating the money. In that case, he needs to fire his offensive coordinator and special teams coach who have over the course of the last two seasons proven without a doubt that they are completely incompetent.

Was anybody else reaching for the blood pressure meds during that game? How many running plays were called on first down? For those who went to the game, how much of the poor play was due to the weather conditions? It just sounds like Coach Mac has forgotten how far the hurry up offense and the game has gotten him over the last few years.

The Cats better sharpen up before the William & Mary game or it's going be ugly.

Weather really wasn't that terrible, rained hard in spurts, but all in all not bad. Your kicker is money, that kid won the game for you, 3 FG's, two of which were BOMBS!

Coach Mac doesn't call the plays homie. And we're 6-1, in great shape for the playoffs, you gotta chill out a lilxcoolx

I think the problem is that I believe some of us don't think we're playing the best players on the offensive end of the spectrum. In my estimation (and I mean it in this order), Toman has showed enough to say that Decker deserves a shot. I don't really think Decker's performances against either Towson or Dartmouth carry any weight, so much as I think that someone else may deserve a shot.

That said, Toman and Kackert stepped it up in the second half.

We may be 6-1, but we've only got one quality win (unless you count beating a 1-7 FBS team a quality win), and three of the wins were by 8 points or less. If you take Villanova out of the mix, the combined records of the teams we've beaten is 10-27, hardly playoff caliber opponents. I have little doubt we'll make the playoffs, what with our remaining opponents. I'd just like to see a little more creativity in the offense.
