And we got our bi-annual reminder of how poor SFA handles the scheduling of the game. This game should be on TV annually. It is when it is in Huntsville. Not the same in Nacogdoches.

The Lumberjacks decide to make this game homecoming and there's no flexibility to move it to TV. Doesn't SFA realize they could have two good gates if they do homecoming and SHSU on different dates? Apparently not.

As of late, scheduling Homecoming as the SHSU game has not helped SFA - especially when the Bearkats leave with the 'W'.

Just ask the Reliant Stadium folks about how one-sided this rivalry has been as of late. SFA did not have pictures with the trophy for which to provide to the Texan brass to promote the game...

2nd thread you've brought that up in. I guess you got to run your mouth off now while you can. They will be able to send a pic to reliant in 6 days.

I noticed that also. I think that SFA will (if they can) put as many points on the board as possible. I think the Louisiana Terror chooses to forget that the Beercats won a squeaker last year: 3 pts. That 5 point home field advantage is the only thing that saved them.:o

I do not forget last year's game. That's the one where Moses set school, FCS and NCAA records. Unfortunately, came out on the losing side of the scoreboard.

Hey, when you've won the rivalry game as much as we have, it loses touch as a rivalry. Should be fun and I think SHSU could be in for a loss, but hey - SFA is due a victory in this series.

If Joseph is not healthy, we're in trouble!

Joseph update...we're in trouble!

The Bearkats are in the same boat as they were last weekend heading into the Southeastern Louisiana game. Starting quarterback Blake Joseph is going to be a game-time decision Saturday.

Joseph suffered an ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of Sam Houston’s win over Nicholls on Oct. 10. The injury slowed him down in the loss to the Lions, taking away his scrambling abilities, which is a big part of Joseph’s game.

Joseph hasn’t practiced much this week and was in a protective boot Thursday.

Let's see if SFA makes this a rivalry once more...

To most fans, the matchup between Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State remains a huge rivalry.

For SFA football coach J.C. Harper, not so much.

“To me, it's kind of hard to make a rivalry if you don't win any of (the games),” Harper said during Tuesday's conference call with reporters. “We've won only one in the last (nine) years. You've got to give it to Sam Houston and coach Todd Whitten. They play hard, and we don't.

“I'm just hoping that this time we can.”

SFA beat writer shares his thoughts...he has typically been wrong before, let's hope he is again today!

Bottom line: Every time you think Sam Houston is down a little bit and SFA has the advantages, the Bearkats rise up and throw a wrench in the mix. How'd that happen? That said, SFA's offense is due a break-out game and the Lumberjacks' defense is really playing well. SFA's special teams have been steady, too. Sam Houston's offense has the potential to score, but the defense is shaky. SFA has proved it can win them close the last two weeks. The home guys are itching to turn it loose. Expect some big plays and big momentum swings.

Prediction: Careful, careful, guys.

SFA 36, Sam Houston 20.

Just confirmed over the Houstonian (SHSU student newspaper) Twitter...Joseph out, Randolph or Welch to start.

Three and outs both ways...

SHSU has SFA pinned inside their 10.

Really doubting Kats' chances with Randolph in. Would feel a bit more comfortable with Welch, but do not want him to burn medical redshirt.

TexasTerror
October 24th, 2009, 02:20 PM
SFA had nothing doing on their second drive, handed the ball back over to the Kats, who have taken it inside the SFA30 the other way...

Randolph is completing passes of the short variety. I'd prefer SHSU take up as much clock time as possible...

First SHSU opportunity...Chris Lucas overthrown by 10 yards. Was open.

Second on - Miguel Antonio misses from 35 yards. UGH!

SFA is moving the ball well on their third drive. Time is ticking, may not be able to do too much before the end of the 1st quarter.

TexasTerror

End of 1st Quarter, 0-0

A positive note for SHSU fans...FIRST time all season SFA has been shut out in the first quarter of play

We'll enjoy that one statistical nugget...because SFA just scored.

Jeremy Moses to Aaron Rhea - 7-0 Jacks, 14:45 2Q

SFA up 14-0...a 49 yard TD pass by Moses. Back to Rhea...

SFA is reporting that butts in the seats could total 20k today.

SHSU still struggling - looks like SFA may make this resemble somewhat of a rivalry. Takes a few more wins though, Jacks! ;)

Randolph continues to go down time and time again. He just does not know how to handle the ball...

SFA takes over possession after a Bearkat punt.

TexasTerror
October 24th, 2009, 02:58 PM
SFA is 0-of-2 on 4th down...both times have come between the 25-30 of SHSU.

Time running out in the first half. Under four minutes to go.

Welch in at QB for SHSU...

First collegiate appearance and it looks like his medical redshirt year has been ripped up in the Bearkats' time of need.

Welch hurt during his appearance...Randolph back in.

TexasTerror
October 24th, 2009, 03:05 PM
Moses to Scott...TOUCHDOWN

SFA will go into the half with a 21-0 lead.

Moses is now 20-of-28 for 268 yards and 3 TD

SHSU is preparing to get back on top in this rivalry next year.

As Texas Southern is soon to find out in the Labor Day Classic...every 10 years or so, you are going to get a win against your archrival. This was SFA's first home win against SHSU since 1998 and just the second win this century.

SHSU's backup quarterbacks are not Division I worthy and quite frankly, if our defense was going to get no support from the offense - we knew this was coming.

The Bearkat fans are calling for Todd Whitten's head and I have full faith in both the AD and President of the university to do what they need to do.

No post-game quotes from Todd Whitten...?? Scott Stoker talks to the Item.

“We gave up three big plays on defense in the first half, but other than that I didn’t think we played bad,” SHSU defensive coordinator Scott Stoker said. “We didn’t come out in the second half and play well. We were breaking in a new quarterback making his first start and that was tough for him to come into a big game like this.
