Interesting, neither App nor Northern Iowa has an O player on 1st team.

I'm a big believer in the sum being greater than the parts, so that doesn't surprise me one bit.

Didn't Rod Gilmore talk about this 1,487 times, at least for UNI, when he said UNI stood for Unity. And they didn't have any first team all-conference players even.

mlbowl: While I love the Griz as much as you do, the only Griz who arguably should be on one of the All-America teams, at least based on statistics of those who did make it, would be Lex Hilliard, who ran for over 100 more yards on the same number of carries as Omar Cuff of Delaware, who was named to the 3rd team.

While Cuff is certainly a talent, you could argue that Hilliard had a better year. I don't know Cuff's receiving numbers, though, and Hilliard was not used enough as a receiver this year, that's for sure. Lex only had 11 receptions for 144 yards, although he did have two TDs on receptions, including a 66 yard reception, the longest of the season by a Griz receiver.

I suppose you could make an argument for Mike Murphy at DE, too. He was disruptive in every game he was in, especially before he broke his thumb.

Murphy's one person that crossed my mind.....along with Tuff as a return specialist

Omar led Delaware in rushing AND receiving AND scoring.
249 carries for 1205 yds, 14 TDs, 4.8 yds/carry 109.5 yds/game
41 receptions for 414 yds, 4 TDs, 10.1 yds/catch, 37.6 yds/game
11 games, 18 TDs. 9.82 pts/game (4th in I-AA)

Hilliard:
249 carries for 1322 yds, 12 TDs, 5.3 yds/carry 110.1 yds/game
11 receptions for 144 yds, 2 TDs, 13.1 yds/catch, 12.0 yds/game
12 games, 14 TDs. 7.00 pts/game

The two are very close statistically, but I think the slight edge does go to Cuff.

Just waiting for Happy Penguin to start crying about Maurice Bennet from Lafayette making the squad over YSU's linebacker. Way to go MO! :)

I read somewhere that this All American team was voted on by Sports Information directors around the Country and some Media. Anybody know how those voters relate to the people who voted for the Payton? I wonder if it may mean that Meyer has the inside track for the Payton!

Again, no love for the number 1 overall D in the BSC. At least Bolton got on from the O-Line.

Adam Goloboski, LB from Richmond should have at least been on the 3rd team. He was the 11th leading tackler(10.93 tpg) in IAA and 2nd in the A10 with 131 stops. He also had 7 tfl's, 3 sacks, 1 int, 4pbu and 2 fr this season for the Spiders. He has been a major force on a defense that finished ranked 14th in scoring defense but then again our SID thinks the only player we have on our team is Stacy Tutt!

John Mohring should have been first team over Nkang. Nkang had the big numbers, but Mohring is a much better player.
