Tulsa recap from yesterday...

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma took advantage of early turnovers and cruised to a 45-0 victory against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday afternoon in front of 84,803 fans at OU's Memorial Stadium.

Oklahoma's Landry Jones threw an Oklahoma school record six touchdown passes, while the Sooners amassed 529 total yards. Tulsa, the nation's leading offense in each of the last two years, managed just 269 yards of total offense, the lowest output for the Hurricane, since 2004 against Utah. Tulsa's G.J. Kinne completed 12-of-26 passes for 106 yards and two interceptions, while junior Trae Johnson had a team-best 50 yards on four receptions.

Tulsa fell to 2-1 on the season, while Oklahoma improved to 2-1. The Hurricane opens the home season next week against Sam Houston State.

A write-up from GoBearkats.com...

Sam Houston will take on NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision opponent Tulsa Saturday. The game marks the 25th time since the Bearkats moved up to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision in 1986.

The Bearkats will take on an offensive machine in the Hurricanes when the pair kickoff Saturday at 6 p.m. Tulsa rolled up a school record 11-3 record in 2008, defeating Ball State in the GMAC Bowl.

Tulsa has averaged better than 44.2 points per game the last two seasons , leading NCAA Division I FBS in total offense with 543.9 yards per game in 2007 and 569.9 yards in 2008. The Hurricanes rank 20th nationally for most wins during the last six seasons with 50 victories. They scored a record 661 points in 2008.

Blake Joseph feature from the Tulsa fishwrap...

Senior quarterback Blake Joseph didn't have far to look after deciding to transfer from the University of Houston.

Sam Houston State was just up the road in Huntsville, Texas, about an hour's drive from Joseph's hometown of Bryan, Texas, and is a favored destination of major-college quarterbacks looking to extend their careers.

FYI. The game is listed on the free site that shows many of the games from CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV) web sites.

McNeese @ Tulane is also available as is Texas A&M-Kingsville @ West Texas A&M.

Just getting in...

Tulsa 21
SHSU 3

12:44 2Q

SHSU apparently missed a FG earlier in the game. Our head coach also had the ball turnover on downs on the first drive - surprising.

Ouch Terror. This looks painful.

Tulsa was an agitated team and you know SLC defenses.

35-3 at the half.

340 net yards for Tulsa to 177 for Sam.

They are 3/4 on 3rd down. Sam is 2/9. They're not needing many downs to move the ball.

56-3 midway through the fourth...

Busy doing work, not even following this one. Won't even touch next week's game either! Thanks PV - pay up!

Your final...56-3 Tulsa.

Run game actually did well, but SHSU could not establish the pass and we all know what happens when our secondary faces a tough offensive test. Kats just could not compete and it's not much of a surprise.

Work kinks out against St. Joe's next week.

Aren't they DIII?

Aren't they DIII?

Division II. Probably the last one for awhile per our AD.

Got to love vision and wanting to schedule to make the expanded playoffs. Perhaps with our check from Prairie View, we can buy a home game against an FCS squad from the SWAC or Pioneer - both seem to be looking for checks to cash.

Wait, Mount Saint Joe?

EDIT: Oh, okay, St. Joe Indiana. They aren't terrible though, they blew out Valparaiso. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=292482601

I doubt it... I know Grambling wouldn't stop even to use your rest room.

Thanks for providing that link...

Our opponent has as many Div I wins as we do and more than some of the schools talking smack about our schedule! Again, this is it for us barring any scheduling issues presented by opposing schools in the future.

There's other squads in your conference that could use the $$$ that we can pay out. UAPB for instance would get money from playing us in Huntsville - a relatively easy drive - instead of that home-and-home with the sub-Div I teams in Arkansas.

Check with PB... they might prefer playing Tulsa. Couldn't do much worse than the last team Tulsa played.

They could win if you overlook them.

They could. I've seen SHSU lose to a sub-Div I team coached by our current head coach. Hope it does not come to that.

SHSU's defense could use the game experience and perhaps our offense will get a bit more comfortable in passing the ball - run will be fine.

Really, you just wear them down and you'll win.
