League Honors Harris, Johnson, Brown
OGDEN, UTAH (Sept. 14, 2009) - The Big Sky Conference has announced its Players of the Week for games played on Saturday, Sept. 12. Northern Colorado running back Andre Harris is the Offensive Player of the Week. Montana cornerback Trumaine Johnson is the Defensive Player of the Week. Portland State kicker Zach Brown is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Harris, a 6-foot, 215-pound junior from Woodland Hills, Calif., carried the ball 20 times for 152 yards with two touchdowns as the Bears snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 31-12 victory over the University of San Diego. Harris averaged 7.6 yards per carry, ripping off non-scoring runs of 39 and 45 yards. Harris scored on a 7-yard run with 11:43 to play to put the Bears up 24-12. He capped the scoring with a 19-yard run with 7:59 to play. Harris also caught four passes for 37 yards, giving him 189 all-purpose yards. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Harris.
Johnson, a 6-3, 197-pound sophomore from Stockton, Calif., intercepted two passes in the end zone, tallied six tackles – one for a loss – and a pass breakup in the fifth-ranked Grizzlies’ come-from-behind 17-10 road victory over UC Davis. Johnson halted the Aggies’ first drive when he intercepted quarterback Greg Denham in the end zone. He also ended the Aggies’ final drive and secured the victory by intercepting Denham in the end zone on a fourth-down play with 51 seconds remaining. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Johnson.
Brown, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound freshman from Keizer, Ore., booted field goals of 52 and 46 yards in Portland State’s 34-10 victory over Southern Oregon. Brown’s 52-yard field goal came in the second quarter and put the Vikings up 17-3. It was the longest field goal by a Portland State kicker in 22 years and was 3-yards shy of tying the school record. Brown added the 46-yarder in the fourth quarter. Brown was also 4-for-4 on extra points and finished the game with 10 points. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Brown.
