Players of the Week from Week No. 2
UC Davis wide receiver Chris Carter had quite a season Saturday night in the Aggies’ 17-10 loss to No. 4 Montana. The 6-0 senior shattered the school record for most receptions in a game by three with 18 catches for 190 yards to earn Great West Offensive Player of the Week. The Defensive Player of the Week went to Cal Poly linebacker Carlton Gillespie, who had a sack and two other stops behind the line in the Mustangs’ opening-game victory over Sacramento State, while UC Davis punter Colton Schmidt earned the weekly Special Teams honors by pinning Montana deep into its own end three times in four attempts.

Offensive
WR Chris Carter - UC Davis (6-0, 195, Sr., Danville, Calif.)
UC Davis wide receiver Chris Carter shattered a school record with 18 receptions while picking up a career-high 190 receiving yards during the Aggies’ tough loss to Montana. He had 10 catches in the second half including a long of 42 yards late in the fourth quarter as UC Davis tried to catch the Grizzlies. His receptions broke the previous mark of 15 set by Tony Kays in 2005 while his yards eclipsed his previous best of 189 yards (on a previous career-high 13 receptions) at Central Arkansas last year. Carter’s 18 catches are the most among all NCAA FCS teams this season while his 190 yards rank sixth in the FCS.

P Colton Schmidt - UC Davis (5-11, 190, Fr., Bakersfield, Calif.)

Schmidt pinned the Grizzlies at the 3 with a 31-yard kick in the second quarter and then forced them to start at their 11 a little later in the quarter after a fair catch. His 27-yarder late in the third quarter resulted in a fair catch at the Montana 9.
