Winston-Salem State's defense is holding its own against Curtis Pulley. Just stopped FAMU on fourth down in Ram territory.

R.A., saw your post on the MEAC board about your MEAC plan for the future. NCAA rules allow you to have either a championship game, or go to the playoffs, not both. The MEAC can't have a title game and then send the winner to the playoffs.

You can go to a bowl game after a conference championship, but not the playoffs.

That's not true. If you have 12 football playing teams, you can have a conference title game as long as it occurs a week before the playoffs. A conference championship game is not considered a post season contest IF your conference has 12 football playing members.

The same rule for the FBS applies for the FCS.

(c) Twelve- Member Conference Championship Game. [FBS/FCS] A conference championship game between division champions of a member conference of 12 or more institutions that is divided into two divisions (of six or more institutions each), each of which conducts round- robin, regular- season competition among the members of that division;

Wonder if WSSU's finally figured out to kick AWAY from Vann?

OK I've been trying to broaden my horizons and I've done everything possible to see the two teams that MEAC fans have been talking about as potential top 25 teams. Luckily, ESPN put them both on within a week of each other - which makes for easy comparison.

My take (which is worth just about nothing): SCSU is light years ahead of FAMU, and it appears that SCSU had a bad game against Grambling too.

FAMU looked very small and besides Pulley and Vann didn't really look all that athletic. Pulley is a pretty decent QB. Vann is electric on the punt returns, but he's got to button up the showboating. He got two personal fouls last night.

Based on these two games alone (FAMU vs WSSU and SCSU vs Grambling), I'm not 100% sold that either belongs in the top 25. SCSU will stick around another week based solely on their performance against App last year in the playoffs.

FAMU is still coming around. We had a short week to practice after the DSU game. Things we did well against DSU, we didn't do so well against WSSU.

I fully expect us to play a FULL game against Howard.

Pulley is very athletic, but I believe the coaches are telling him not to run it so much and stay in the pocket.

FAMU is on ESPNU next Thursday, so tune in.

SCSU is a top 25 team. They just have to stop having these occasional mental lapses and play a full four quartes of football. They should have been up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter during the Grambling game. The coaching staff has to make the most of each possession.

At the end of the half, Grambling scored a field goal when SCSU appear to be very relaxed. Coach Pough has to keep his head in the game. The grambling game should not have been close.

As for FAMU... I agree with you danefan. I was very frustrated yesterday with the Rattlers' performance. They could have won this game 70-0, but they played an average performance instead.
