CSN West: Missed it by That Much, Twice
By Kent Schmidt, CSN West Columnist

An old 1960s TV show titled “Get Smart” came to mind over the weekend. To be honest, that show is older than I am so my recognition of it is through the reruns on TVLand. On that show, Maxwell Smart coined the phrase of “Missed it by THAT much” holding his thumb and index finger apart to show the small amount whenever he was describing some hopelessly misguided attempt to pull off a spectacular super spy move.

That old show and phrase came to my mind when describing Northern Iowa’s game at in-state FBS rival Iowa. The Panthers were two field goal attempts away from pulling off the upset over Top 25 FBS-ranked Hawkeyes. Ultimately, UNI would lose by a single point to Iowa 17-16.

Montana drew a Washington-Grizzly Stadium record crowd of 29,698 against Western State. The mark is a Big Sky record for a nonconference game, bettering the mark of 29,326 set when Montana hosted Central Washington last season. The old WSG record was 25,629 set last November when the Grizzlies hosted Montana State.

ummm................might want to look at those numbers again.

That it took that long to put away their Division II foes took some of the salt out of a record crowd of 25,698. The Griz, ranked No. 3 in the Football Championship Subdivision, had an uneven couple of quarters while rotating quarterbacks Andrew Selle and Justin Roper against a mobile, attacking defense.

Just helping you out a little bit. May I ask where you found that exact number "reported"?

xlolx So you went and saw it to be true?

The typo has been adjusted and the Big Sky office notified. Thanks!

No, I was laughing at both of you. One would think that beating an attendance record by 4000 for a DII school would be something that one would check up on before press time. But, alas, all of those stories from CSN have lots of flaws.

Not trying to be a jerk, but after a couple years of errors being pointed out you would think the reporting and writing would get better.

xrolleyesx It was a typo. Maybe the typos would not happen if we were only covering the Griz and the UM staff sent out press releases? xrolleyesx xnonono2x

Marshall scored 14 points directly off SIU fumbles, and it kicked the game-winning field goal in its 31-28 victory shortly after the Salukis were flagged for an illegal substitution.

Wow, sounds like they really gave the game away

- Montana earned its 106th victory since 2000 with its 38-0 victory over Division II Western State on Saturday. Montana also assured itself that it will have more victories than any other FCS team this decade. Appalachian State, a loser to East Carolina on Saturday, has 90 victories and can finish with no more than 104.

I believe Oklahoma has 102 (or maybe 101), so we gained a little seperation last week xbowx
