I hope so. Toman should've been yanked. The defense played alright, but way too much room to mediocre receivers was given. This game should not have been close.

Toman's last three games have been horrendous now. Have to be a little bit concerned...

Kevin Decker time.

What's your agenda, seriously? Are you Kevin Decker's father? Toman's had a series of bad games in a row but has a larger track record of success.

...and I knew this post was coming..

crusader11
September 5th, 2009, 06:33 PM
No agenda. I think these numbers will show that Kevin Decker deserves a look. Nothing more, but just simply a look at a significant amount of time to see what he can do. Toman's last two games of last season were atrocious, especially the UNI game. Can anyone dispute that. And his performance today was less than stellar against a rather weak team in Saint Francis.

43 for 87 for a 49% completion percentage
595 passing yards (about 200 a game)
3 touchdowns to 10 interceptions (these are the alarming numbers). He took UNH out of the UNI game, and almost allowed Saint Francis to sneak away with the W today.

WrenFGun
September 5th, 2009, 10:12 PM
...I haven't seen UNH play a game THIS badly since, PROBABLY, the absolutely terrible performance they had at McGuirk two years ago the year they got in at 7-4.

The Offensive Line is definitely Green, as has been mentioned, though that's not my biggest concern, nor is Toman, who actually hit some people right on the numbers today and saw drops/INTs as a result (though one of his INTs was on a terrible play where he started the receiver down all the way).

The bigger concern to me, today, was the lack of separation by the WR's (and this is with noting that Toman missed Sicko and Mason for easy TD's, and Souza dropped an easy INT return for a TD, too, to add..). Mangieri got hurt, Wright and Chandler didn't play, Fox is out for the year with suspension and Orlando was barely on the field, so we saw, primarily, Travis Negron (at least 1 drop I remember), Mike Greene (I think he caught one ball..he looks slow to me) and Kevon Mason (the best option during the day). I'd like to see UNH use that height with some deeper balls..

Dontra Peters and Sean Jellison both made some plays at RB, and Peters could be a real threat if we can get him some open space. In general, I'm not sure it made sense running to the outside as much as we did, but what do I know? St. Francis was small...don't think they could've stopped the inside game for much.

Ultimately, I think we have the defense this year to compete against most teams and stay in games. If the WR's and OL can get better as the season progresses, and Kackert can stay healthy, we'll be fine, though less explosive, on offense. If not...might be a shorter season than usual.

Well, apparently many other UNH fans agree with me regarding Decker (http://unhwildcats.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=unhanda10football&action=display&thread=215) . It's just a shame it took this long for him to be able to show what he's got.

Answer me this, honestly, when Toman was playing in the first half, and Decker for the second, who was the better QB?

A better question would be if the TEAM was playing at the same level from the first half to the second. Decker stepped in and played well. I can't seem to get a grip on why an HC fan seems to feel the need to start a quarter back controversy at UNH.

I've given my thoughts many times, and I don't think Decker can make the outside throws. If he can, he's the guy, because he looked great over the middle. For now, whoever it is, I'd like McDonell to pick him and stick with him.

I was reading the UNI/UNH thread from last year and crusader was in that thread yelling about Decker, too...seriously, can you please explain your affiliation with Decker? UNH could have Peyton Manning at QB and you'd be calling for Decker.

crusader11

And I shouldn't have been "yelling" about Decker because Toman played so well right? I'm just saying the kid should get a shot. Toman, in my opinion, has been shaky since the SIU game last year...Decker played exceptionally well against Dartmouth, so why not give the chance in another game.

He may just get that chance, but Dartmouth is not SIU or UNI.

I do not mean to sell Decker short and will pull for him.

My point is that the guys who decide who plays see them every day.
They don't read about it in the paper. How many UNH games have you seen in the last couple years? What are you basing your opinon on?

crusader11

Saw the spring game two years ago (thought Decker was visibly better than Toman here), and saw UNH play on TV against SIU and UNI and in person against Army two years ago.
