President Meehan attends first DI board meeting

Meehanslideshow JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville State University president Bill Meehan just returned from his first meeting of the Division I Board of Directors, and in some ways the experience reminded him of what it was like to be a student on the first day at a new school.
"Overwhelming," he said. "I would equate it to trying to drink from a fire hose."
Meehan was appointed in January to the 18-member board, where he'll spend the next four years at the forefront of NCAA legislation and governance. He had served on the NCAA Presidential Advisory Council, and his appointment to the board of directors is considered a coup for the Ohio Valley Conference because not all conferences have a representative.
"It's a tremendous responsibility reviewing legislation and looking to the future (of the NCAA)," he said.
