Background: Arkin came to the Bears as one of the most decorated seniors in the Kansas prep ranks. He was a consensus first team all-state offensive lineman as a senior and also a standout on the defensive line, where he earned all-city honors after recording 47 tackles, nine for losses, and three sacks. He started 28 straight games for coaches Gary Guzman and Dan Adlehardt and was a three-year starter on the varsity squad. He earned selection to the 2006 Kansas Shrine Bowl All-Star Game. Arkin also lettered two years as a heavyweight wrestler, finishing second in the conference as a junior.
