I just read the policy that the NEC may issue up to 40 equivalencies starting this year. Why did this change? Are all teams doing it? Thanks for the info!xcoffeex

Where did you read this? I can't find an NEC release, but a story last June said they'd be adding two per year, not reaching 40 until 2013.

" Beginning in 2009 the Northeast Conference will be adding more football scholarships to the 30 currently allowed each of its programs.

NEC Commissioner Brenda Weare said NEC presidents agreed at a June 11 meeting to add two per year over the next five years bringing its total to 40 by 2013."

Unless you've got something from the league or an AD, it's more likely the writer misunderstood something.

From last year's NEC Policy Manual (this year's isn't online yet)

Maximum Financial Aid Standards.
All NEC football playing institutions are permitted to award a maximum financial aid amount of 30
full athletic grants-in-aid on an equivalency basis. Beginning in 2009-10, grants-in-aid may be
increased by no more than two per year, capping at 40. There would continue to be no scholarship
minimum.
