FARGO, N.D.--The North Dakota State University football team completed its second full week of spring drills with a snappy 60 play scrimmage held Saturday, May 2, on the new Sprinturf on old Dacotah Field.

The offense came out strong and controlled the line of scrimmage. Running back D.J. McNorton rushed seven times for 51 yards including long rushes of 16 and 17 yards. Matt Voigtlander carried the ball eight times for 43 yards.

Nick Mertens completed 15 of 21 passes with no interceptions for 148 yards and a pair of TDs. Mertens spread the ball to eight different receivers including Jordan Schultenover, who caught three passes for 55 yards including a 34-yard grab in traffic near the goal line.

Transfer wide receiver Sidney Haynes caught a pair of passes for 28 yards including a 15-yard TD. Tight end Patrick Shannon made two catches for 17 yards including a 6-yard scoring play.
