CHARLESTON, S.C. – The offense edged the defense 25-22, Saturday at Buccaneer Field, earning their first-ever victory for the offensive unit in the Spring Game during the Jay Mills-era.

The offensive unit combined for 254 yards through the air and an additional 92 on the ground to clinch the victory in the 2009 Memorial Spring Game. Both quarterbacks performed well, with transfer Andrew Trudnowski gaining the edge with an 11-18, 163-yard performance.

Defensively, Kamalu Umu led the charge with six total tackles, including 2.5 sacks. Greg Tompkins also had six tackles in the game. Chris Kuzdale and Matt Bach each had interceptions in the game, the only two turnovers of the contest.

Charleston Southern opens up the 2009 season with the defending national champion Florida Gators on Sept. 5.
