Though Head Coach Tim Walsh has only been on the job since January 9, and at that time, still had to assemble his staff, he has recruited 15 outstanding athletes to play football at Cal Poly.

This, of course, is a good sign to the Mustangs and their fans, that the excellent football program, formerly headed by Coach Rich Ellerson, now HC at West Point, will continue to be excellent for the next several years.

Of course, the 15 are just a start. The signing period started today, and other players are expected to sign soon. Who they are is not yet known or has not yet been announced. But the nucleus through 2012 or 2013 (assuming several will red shirt) will be on the campus next fall.

Ellerson moving up was a tough loss for Poly, but I think you're in good hands with Walsh- he's a good coach.

You know that the title of this thread begs the question:

How many total recruits did Cal Poly sign? ;)

The answer, of course, is 15 recruits signed.

By the way, it was interesting to hear from Coach Walsh that he had only 18 players actually visit the campus in January. Of the 18, 14 High School Seniors decided to take the scholarship offer. The 15th recruit was the lone JC recruit, a kicker, who evidently visited the campus in December, prior to Coach Walsh's arrival.

So of the 18 recruits who actually visited the campus, almost 80% decided that Poly was the school for them. I, of course, don't know how other schools have done in comparison, but I doubt few will even come close.
