I have been bouncing around the idea for a while and thought I would ask you all for an opinion.

I was thinking of posting a Fight Song Lyrics of the day thread...just so you could argue over whose is the best lyrically instead of just sound. This could be done here or on the Smack board OR have two separate threads...one here for the lyrics (to be posted to ONLY if there are corrections) and one on the Smack board for the general whose is better arguements.

What do you all think?

Also...

Here are the Lyrics that I still need to complete Division One overall...

Alcorn State (No known lyrics)
Arkansas-Little Rock
Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Austin Peay
Belmont
Bethune-Cookman
Binghamton

St. Peter's
Savannah State
Seton Hall
South Carolina-Upstate
Southern Illinois-Edwardsville
Southern Utah
Tennessee-Martin
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Virginia Commonwealth
Winston-Salem State
Winthrop

I also want confirmation that Utah Valley University has indeed changed their fight song lyrics and a current copy of those lyrics would be appreciated.

ANY help with these schools would be greatly appreciated. Also, If you have any Division 2, 3 or NAIA Fight Song lyrics to offer up, they would be appreciated.

Thank you for your help in advance!

Providence College just uses "When the Saints Go Marching In."

I've never heard people singing lyrics to it, though maybe some other RI poster might know otherwise.

Quinnipiac

Quinnipiac University does have an alma mater, but no official fight song.

For several years, the Quinnipiac Pep Band played Otis Redding's "I Can't Turn You Loose" as its unofficial fight song at hockey games and other athletic events. Upon joining the ECAC Hockey League in 2005, Quinnipiac soon learned Clarkson University's pep band also played it as its fight song. Quinnipiac kept the song for a short time thereafter, but eventually fazed it out.

Today the Quinnipiac band has been playing "Brass Bonanza" (the old Hartford Whalers theme song) as its unofficial fight song.

Is there an audio copy of the Quinnipiac Alma Mater out there?

So Quinnipiac basically has no fight song...I'll note that...

McNeese's Fight song is a little Cajun Waltz which was recorded in French:

Enjoy the words to; Jolie blonde:

Jolie blonde, regardez donc quoi t'as fait,
Tu m'as quitte pour t'en aller,
Pour T'en aller avec un autre, oui, que moi,
Quel espoir et quel avenir, mais, moi, je vais avoir?

Jolie blonde, tu m'as laisse, moi tout seul,
Pour t'en aller chez ta famille.
Si t'aurais pas ecoute tos les conseils de les autres
tu serait ici-t-avec moi aujourd 'hui

Jolie blonde, tu croyais il y avait just toi,
Il y a pas just toi dans le pays pour moi aimer.
Je peux trouver just une autre jolie blonde,
Bon Dieu sait, moi, j'ai un tas.

"Hampton Fight Song"

All hail, to the Hampton Pirates
Rulers of the sea,
All hail, to the Hampton Pirates
Best team they'll ever be!!
All hail! Hail! Hail! To the mighty Hampton Pirates,
Hail to the White and Blue!
It's H-A-M-P-T-O-N,
Hampton Pirates fight to win,
Hampton Pirates we love you!!

I can sort of translate it but it comes across as a really strange fight song as it has to do with a pretty blond leaving someone. Not a lick of football in it.

Jacksonville State's:

Fight on, fight on for ol' Jax State,
We're proud that we're from Alabama!
Fight on, now don't you hesitate.
Courage, pride and honor will lead us on to victory!
So fight on, fight for the Red and White,
We're gonna howl tonight!
Fight on, Gamecocks, and you will see,
That we will win the victory!

OK, OK,

I can see that some of you struggle with the French language... (;

Here is the English translation:

Pretty blond, look at what you've done,
You left me to go away,
to go away with another, yes, than me,
What hope and what future am I going to have?

Pretty blond, you've left me all alone
To go back to your family.
If you had not listened to all the advice of the others
You would be here with me today.

Pretty blond, you thought there as just you,
There is not just you in the land to love me.
I can find another pretty blond,
Good God knows, I have a lot.

I Got Centenary's Fight Song Lyrics!

Old CENTENARY stands right at the TOP.
Come on, let’s Boost and Fight for her and NEVER stop.
Until we WIN for her a lasting HONOR true,
Oh Centenary we’re for YOU.

Centenary G-E-N-T-S
We are back of you!
We’re PROUD of you!

You can this time and show what you can DO!
While OUR colors fly,
Drive on to VICTORY- -
It’s yours, Maroon and White!

Here's a sarcastic version of Boston College's Fight Song...

For Boston, For Boston, the outhouse on the hill
For Boston, For Boston, it sucks and always will

Here's to the outhouse on the hill
It Sucks and Always Will

For Boston, For Boston, the outhouse on the hill

There are a couple of other verses that reference BC's ties to illegal gambling and point shaving, but I've just shared the highlights.

It works for me. I think mine plays with Quicktime.

Jolie Blonde is the "traditional" fight song of McNeese.
The official fight song which had been around a long while but has just come back in recent years is "On McNeese." You can hear it here: http://www.mcneesebands.com/sights-and-sounds/on-mcneese (in the center column, click to play right under Band Sounds.)

THE BAND playing Jolie Blonde is now at the site listed above. (Thank you, Mr. Jacobs!)

"On McNeese"

Our Cowboys fight for victory,
They knock their foes out one, two, three,
They roll aside all opposition,
Blocking their position,
Striving in close harmony.

To victory we'll march tonight,
Winning 'cause all Cowboys fight.
They run the score to size galore and
Then they score some more.
Hail, McNeese, Hail!

FAMU does not have an "official" fight song, per se. However, we do a version of Hot Times In the Ole Town Tonite (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxnFBEyCp9E), (which I thnk sucks) after a touchdown. It's done in two parts. Immediately after the TD, it is played slowly. After the PAT, it is played again, but at a fast pace.

I would rather us play Mighty Rattlers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8FI9kdrEaA&feature=related)(which is played by a lot of HBCU's, but with their own different arrangement) on scoring a TD. And after the PAT, we should play Rattlers Orange and Green (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbgnVIhMUGE).
There are no lyrical stanzas emphazised.

From the information I have gathered, FAMU's Fight Song is "Our Florida" with the following lyrics:

Our Florida
Dear old Florida, we are yearning, we will fight for you;
While our loyal hearts are burning, we'll be ever true.
Florida, Florida, bless her name, Orange and Green we'll proudly wave;
We will honor and protect your sons and daughters brave.

Is this wrong?

I also heard of a song called "Flawda Boys" that is also attributed to being an unofficial fight song for FAMU.

I have recently read on the MEAC board that 'Our Florida' was our official fight song, but it's news to me, and I am an Old School Rattler from waaay back. This is the first time that I have seen the lyrics (I didn't know any existed). The only time we ever hear this played is at the end of the game when the football team gathers on the field for the after-game prayer. And I don't believe I've ever heard 'Flawda Boys'.

The only time we ever hear this played is at the end of the game when the football team gathers on the field for the after-game prayer. And I don't believe I've ever heard 'Flawda Boys'.

It looks like "Mighty Rattlers" also is an unofficial fight song...along with about two or three more.

Bethune-Cookman's fight song lyrics:

Fight for dear old BCC fight for the Gold forever.
Loyal sons to thee we’ll be.
We’ll fight to win the victory, Rah Rah Rah.
Cheer for the Maroon and Gold.
May it wave forever.
May it wave forever.
An emblem of our sons so true.

mizzoufan1,
here is a link to the music of our "fight" song. This sounds more like an anthem rather than a fight song. In fact, I'm pretty sure of two schools that use this music as their alma mater. Click on #10:

http://rattlerfan.com/mPlayer.html

These are the lyrics:

"Our Florida"

Dear old Florida, we are yearning, we will fight for you;
While our loyal hearts are burning, we'll be ever true.
Florida, Florida, bless her name, Orange and Green we'll proudly wave;
We will honor and protect your sons and daughters brave.

Your right...it IS more of an anthem rather than a fight song. I would think that "FAMU Spirit" or "Mighty Rattlers" would be your "Fight Song". But it is what it is...Thank you for your assistance...

Here is a different question for you...What does the band play after a TD or FG? Or is the song a bit random after scores?

Immediately after the TD, it is played slowly. After the PAT, it is played again, but at a fast pace.

I would rather us play Mighty Rattlers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8FI9kdrEaA&feature=related) (which is played by a lot of HBCU's, but with their own different arrangement) on scoring a TD. And after the PAT, we should play Rattlers Orange and Green (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbgnVIhMUGE)....

For the University of Detroit-Mercy fight song, the traditional song is "Dear Old U. of D," which was used at least from the early 1930s till at least the late 1960s. I cannot find a recording, but the lyrics are at http://msgboard.snopes.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=print_topic;f=99;t=000301

However, I have read or observed that this is no longer their current fight song. I do not have info on the new song.

Having looked over what is posted there ...

For old U. of D.
Dear old U. of D.
March along to Victory!
Can you hear your thousands cheering
As the goal our men are nearing?
For old U. of D.
Dear old U. of D.
True to you we'll always be,
So FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
For the glorious red and white!
Dear old U. of D.

I would make a few changes -- this is what my father (a 1934 grad) taught me:

For old U. of D.
Dear old U. of D.
Marching on to Victory!
Can't you hear the thousands cheering
As the goal our men are nearing?
For old U. of D.
Dear old U. of D.

This is the Fight Song lyrics that the University (I think) is currently using...
The Titan Way
Fight for the Titan Way!
Detroit is here to stay!
Red, White and Blue,
We know what to do,
Vic'try is ours today! U-D-M!

Come hold your heads up high!
Heed to the Titan cry!
Roll on to win,
Never give in,
Our spirit will never die! U-D-M!

Come hold your heads up high!
Heed to the Titan cry!
Roll on to win,
Never give in,
Our spirit will never die!

U-D-M, U-D-M, Go-o-o-o-o Titans!
U-D-M, U-D-M --Go Titans!

I COULD be wrong. But I will add the lyrics you have presented to my document that I have built over the years.

Here is the South Dakota State fight song. I guess we have the same basic music as Miami (OH), who knew?

Ours starts at the 48 second mark:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJ7jYHuPIZE

Lyrics:
Ring the bell for South Dakota
The Yellow and the Blue;
Cheer the team from South Dakota
With loyal hearts so true;
Win the game for South Dakota
The school that serves us well;
We will fight for South Dakota
So let’s ring, ring, ring, those bells.

I can sort of translate it but it comes across as a really strange fight song as it has to do with a pretty blond leaving someone. Not a lick of football in it.

Yeah, but this was chosen over, "She Wants to Sell My Monkey."

"ODU Fight Song"

Fight Old Dominion, your courage roars!
Fight Old Dominion, your valor soars!
Blue and Silver worn with pride,
We've got the spirit here on our side.
Hail Old Dominion, your courage roars!
Hail Old Dominion, your valor soars!
Old Dominion - GO BIG BLUE!
Our victory lives on in you!

Those are the new revisionist words. These are the original words. Those preferred by me.

"Blue and White Fight"

Blue and white fight on to victory!
Blue and white fight on to victory!
Monarchs go on to win
Win for the glory of Old Dominion!
Blue and white fight on to victory!
Blue and white fight on to victory!
Let the victory banners sail
All hail to Old Dominion, hail!

Unauthorized NDSU Fight song:

On the plains of North Dakota
Standing there for all to see,
Lies an old abandoned outhouse
That they call the University

Hail the Bison, Hail the Bison
With their tails up in the air
University, University
Sioux can kiss what's under there!

Some people also add:

Bison once! Bison twice!
holy jumpin' Jehoshaphice,
ahhhh....S--t

We're the mighty Bison

Unauthorized NDSU Fight song:

On the plains of North Dakota
Standing there for all to see,
Lies an old abandoned outhouse
That they call the University

Hail the Bison, Hail the Bison
With their tails up in the air
University, University
Sioux can kiss what's under there!

Some people also add:

Bison once! Bison twice!
holy jumpin' Jehoshaphice,
ahhhh....S--t
spit-tobacco chew,
We're the mighty Bison
who the f--k are you?!

I almost wish Mizzou was that inventive when it comes k*****. But all we do is yell M-I-Z...F***-k-U!

Heres the only recording I could find of St. Joes. What a creative bunch, can't even come up with their own song, they have to change the words to a public domain song.

Appalachian State's Fight Song Lyrics

Hi-Hi-y-ike-us
Nobody Like us,
We are the mountaineers, mountaineers, mountaineers,
Always a-winning,
Always a-grinning,
Always a-feeling fine
You bet, hey!
Go Apps!
Fight Apps!
Go!

Austin Peay Fight Song Lyrics

Smash! Bang! To victory
Go the Governors of Austin Peay
Clash! Clang! It’s misery
For the minions of the Enemy
Fight on and
Smash! Bang! to Score Again
For it’s ready, set 1, 2, 3!
Smash Bang! Biff Bam! Clash Clang! Rim Ram!
Dash along to Victory!
Let’s Go Peay!

(There are WORSE lyrics out there folks...I have seen some of them!)

Seriously that is pretty bad... and pretty funny..laughed out loud when I read that!
