NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Senior Andre Ralston shattered Eastern Kentucky football’s career receiving yards record and moved into second place all-time in the Ohio Valley Conference with a seven-catch, 189-yard performance in the Colonels’ 49-0 shutout at Tennessee State on Saturday. EKU (7-4, 7-1 OVC) earned second place in the league for the third consecutive season by virtue of Eastern Illinois’ 10-6 victory at Jacksonville State earlier in the afternoon.
Ralston, a Louisville, Ky. native, who also holds the EKU record for career receptions with 165, increased his career receiving yards total to 3,095. The wide-out recorded his sixth 100-yard receiving day of the season, 11th of his career, and finished with two scores.
Quarterback Josh Greco, who finished the game with 333 yards on 21-for-30 passing, tied a program record with four touchdown tosses. It marked the third time this season Greco threw four TD passes in a game.
The Colonel defense, led by Marcus Mayes with a team-high 10 stops and Mark Cristiani with six tackles, three for loss and 1.5 sacks, notched its first shutout since Oct. 11, 2003, a 41-0 blanking of Eastern Illinois.
EKU moved in front 7-0 when Greco connected with Andre Green on a 40-yard score with just six seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Colonels captured control of the contest with two touchdowns in a span of 2:21 in the second quarter. Greco and Ralston hooked up on a 60-yard score at 5:53 and then Mark Dunn capped a three-play, 19-yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown run with 3:32 to play in the opening half.
After moving the ball throughout the third quarter, Greco threw an eight-yard TD to Matt Schoborg, his first career touchdown, at 4:43 to extend the lead to 28-0. A 49-yard interception return from Brandon Rosser, his second in three weeks, gave the visitors a 35-0 advantage with 2:11 remaining in the third.
Dunn’s second score of the afternoon made the tally 42-0. The Harrodsburg, Ky. native powered in from one yard out with 11:03 to play in the final quarter. He finished the season with 939 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.
Ralston capped the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Greco with 6:23 remaining. EKU’s 523 yards of total offense was its second highest of the season, trailing the 526 total at Murray State on Nov. 5. The Colonel defense posted its best effort of the season, allowing just 123 total yards.
