So we can interpret this as:
a) holy cross will be good again next year
b) UMass is in trouble?

Why would Don Brown leave UMASS for Yale?

Why would Gilmore withdraw his name from the Yale coaching job? There are only two explanations:

1) Holy Cross gave him a pay raise - which wasn't mentioned in the article.

2) Gilmore and Yale rubbed each other the wrong way.

I'm thinking it's 2). If there are other possibilities, I'd be interested in hearing them.

Or you 'withdraw" when you realize you are not the leading canidate. Better to say you withdrew your name from consideration then being passed over for the job.

I think UMass would be interested in him.

I think UMass would be interested in him.

That would be interesting. Brown takes Yale, and Gilmore positions himself for the UMass job... Very, very interesting. Yes, that could be possibility number 3.

Of course, Brown seems to have the inside track for the Yale job. No question.

Other thread says Brown punted Yale job! What next?

It makes you wonder what in Sam Hill is happening at Yale. Why are folks punting? Lack of institutional support? Lack of salary? Something else? As I mentioned in the other thread, Yale has really botched this coaching search by implying that Brown had the inside track for the job.

Now Brown and Gilmore have removed themselves from consideration, and put the Eli down to their No. 3 choice for the job... and if the chatter is correct, they're going to be going for a guy who doesn't have any Ivy League experience as HC.

To be fair, Yale didn't do anything, it's been all rumors from insiders.
